I love to go on YouTube and check out some of the songs from these charts you don't know/can't remember. It's not always a pleasant experience, but it's mostly fun.:D

I'm presuming you've seen my 70's chart thread?

I'd never heard of Survivor until Eye Of The Tiger. So many big U.S. Bands had only a couple of hits here.

I know more of these than I should because I followed the US charts as Olivia's records always came out first there (and did a lot better). It's how I got into acts like Christopher Cross, Air Supply, Linda Ronstadt and the Go-Go's.

    J. Geils Band is another one. Loved Centrefold and Freeze Frame, and then they were done. They're one of the acts on my list to investigate more.

In 1980/81 I preferred the US charts to ours. Not just because Olivia did so well either.:D I used to listen to Paul Gambaccini's show on Saturday afternoons for all the US hits. That's where I discovered Hall & Oates too.

Weird. I was singing Living In A Box So The Story Goes to myself this morning as I lamented I don't actually have it on CD!

Fantastic chart - Bananarama, Eurythmics (their best single), Bryan Ferry, Rick Astley, Scarlet Fantastic. Rare as well for two same songs to be in the charts, each by two different acts. Go Amazulu!

Scanning through the list, I was surprised at how few of the songs I know.

There are some songs on this list that I like (Say Say Say, Owner Of A Lonely Heart, Karma Chameleon, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues, So Bad, Undercover Of The Night, the two Lionel Richie songs, etc).

I have never heard these songs (at least knowingly):

I consider 1987 one of the last 'great' chart years. After this it started to slip away from me a little. I think you're younger than me, so this is probably when the charts were getting exciting for you.:)

I was surprised as well. I need to look it up. At the moment, I would call myself a casual Police fan, but I do want to start listening to them more often. The problem is simply that there has been so many fantastic releases over the last year, and I barely have time to listen to all of them as it is.

    I know what you mean.:D

The Police's albums can be patchy, but they pay dividends in time. The Zenyatta Mondatta & Reggatta De Blanc SACDs are stunning.

I think my top 80s years were '82, '84, '86, '87 and '88. In a lot of ways 1980 felt like an extension of the 70s, and the charts didn't really start to change until summer of '81 in the UK. Then things moved on very, very fast.

Anyone interested in the late 80's charts. This is from 13/5/89.

Not as many SAW records as I thought would be in here...

    #33, @Alan1074. Was that it's chart peak?
