I'm in the music business and came semi-fairly close to meeting George one time but it fell through.:(

I never came remotely close to Paul that way, so I'm putting my faith in you at this point.:)

It's always interesting to me that back in the sixties the Beatles were fairly approachable to speak with if you were willing to hang out all hours at Abbey Road , or actually EMI Studio (or Studios) was the correct name at that point I believe

Thanks for sharing this. I thought it was really cool to hear that Elton John thinks so highly of Paul and Linda's vocals for "Dear Boy".

    E.M. Recording Studios, I think.
Yeah. Those were the days, it seems. By reading the old NME and Melody Maker papers you can have the idea of what's like to work in the press in the 60's. And the highest point is that if the guys liked you, they'd trust you and you'd be granted with exclusive interviews.
Back in the 60's, even as a fan it used to be easier. If you had the chance, you'd have simply to knock at Paul's door and if he were in there, he'd invite you for a cup of tea (would you care to sit with me for a cup of English tea?) :)

Anyway, never give up your hopes. I don't! :agree:

Oh yeah. I believe it was in the "Imagine" film that John encountered a guy that thought he was Jesus and John takes him in and calmly tries to set him straight . Also, I think Paul took a guy to a Beatles session that thought he was God. Yikes ! Could you imagine that kind of stuff happening now ?
    SECURITY ! SECURITY!

Jeez...I think the break out of paranoia started off when John was murdered. So far, the artists were more easy-going.
In Paul's case, the guy said that he was Jesus. I think Paul got a bit worried on that. He didn't want to be THE ONE who'd denied Jesus. So he invited the man for the session. Lucky guy!

Besides security concerns, many other things were more low key back in the day. You want to take pictures or movies nonstop during the Beatles concert?
    No problem !
Try that now at a concert !

Thank you cdirani72 for posting this interview. Ram has long been my favorite McCartney solo album and I learned quite a bit from your Q & A with Eirik. I appreciate it!

So Claudio, do you have pretty good access to David ?
Will you be able to pick his brain a little more after the prerelease
    mania subsides ?

Here is a question for everyone. Do we know which tapes Steve had access to when re-mastering Ram? I did a search and was not able to find anything. Were these positively the best masters? Were they safeties? Second generation? etcetera etcetera.

This must have been asked before, but darned if I can find it.

More real. You'll be able to hold it in your hands. At least, that's the plan for now.

I have no idea here but I would like to know if the phasing problems that plagued Ram are fixable. It seems like it would be since the other Ram songs like "Get On The Right Thing", "Little Lamb Dragonfly", "Little Woman Love", "A Love For You", etc...(things released after Ram) do not have any phase issues at all.

And Ram was to be mixed for Quad but it fell through for some reason. Would love to see a 5.1 release these days.

I asked him back in 2005. He answered to my messages but refused completely to talk about Wings because, according to him, "he was writing his own book". Well, almost 2 years later, no Denny Laine book.

As I understand it, the phase issues can not fixed in a simple remastering. The phase issues are in the mix, or at least parsts of it. So, I assume the only fix would would be a re-mix, maybe. However because of the bounces in involved, it is likely there really isn't a "clean" multi sitting around, If that makes sense.

Now according to Steve all the Macca DCC's used the British masters.

So I guess I want the authoritative answer on what exists in the vaults for Ram. I understand that Steve used the British master. However, I keep thinking that there was a safety, or "do not use" reel sitting around that was mentioned around here. I am sure Steve gets tired of rehashing this Ram stuff, but I would just love to know all there is to know about these tapes.

Even though Chris Brewer said we can expect something real, it also seems we're in for some cool surprises to go along with the iTunes release of all Paul's solowork. Check out this new article:

    May 26, 2007 -- Paid Content.org

McCartney iTunes Delay Due To 'Exclusive', DRM-Less Next Week

Earlier this week, observers noted that, while Apple is usually first to market with new-release additions to the iTunes Store, it has been beaten to the punch on the first ever digital reissues of Paul McCartney's solo repertoire - Napster, Rhapsody, Urge and Zune Marketplace added the songwriter's back catalog on Wednesday, while iTunes is blank. paidContent.org has learned the apparent delay is down to the preparation of "an exclusive" offering that will come along with the material.

A spokesperson for EMI, which holds McCartney's back catalog on the Parlophone imprint, would not give further details of what the exclusive will be but repeated that it would appear with the 25-album archive on iTunes Store in keeping with Apple's earlier claim the re-releases would be available "this month". Asked for a progress update on delivery of its new, DRM-less repertoire, which EMI slated for a May release when it announced last month that Apple would get the line-up first, the EMI spokesperson confirmed that this development was also on course to make good on that schedule.

Join the dots together and it seems that McCartney's material, plus something extra, will be the thing that finally fronts the launch of the DRM-free future for EMI and Apple next week (Monday is a public holiday in EMI's native UK and in the U.AS., June starts on Friday, so mark Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday). If McCartney figures in some further launch announcement or performance, that will give him a week's publicity before his forthcoming album, the aptly named Memory Almost Full, is released on June 4 (UK) and 5 (US).
