I thought they sang “This time there’s no stuffy nose” instead of “This time there’s no stopping us” in the Laverne and Shirley theme.

Technically it’s implied that he’s not talking about the linen

I thought the spoken bit in I'm Not in Love was "silence, requesting silence" when it is of course "big boys don't cry".

    Queen, "Somebody to Love"

Real line (at least accdg to the Web)

"I work 'til I ache in my bones"

Always sounded to me like "I worked till I ate my balls" whatever that means

It's always a tough work day when you're too tired to make dinner and have to eat your own nuts.

In The Beatles I'm Only Sleeping, John sings, "Lying there staring at the ceiling."
But for most of my life, I always heard the more Buddhist-seeming, "Blind man staring at the ceiling."

    "Duck Tales" intro/theme song -
Actual Lyric "Not pony tails or cotton tales"
What I heard "Not phony tails or gotham tales" (as in Gotham city - I was also into Batman at the time)

I heard Elton John singing "Love Lies Bleeding in my head" rather than "in my hands"

It took me a long time to figure out that the line was "I don't need no money, fortune or fame" from "My Girl". I never used to detect the syllable after 'money', so, I heard what I thought was "money, chip or fame"

    I'M A TIGER. - Lulu.

    The main verse sounded like
    "I'm a Thai girl"

In Marshall Crenshaw's song "Cynical Girl" I thought the line "She harbors no illusions and she's worldly-wise" was "She holds no illusion in this world of lies".

Roy Orbison, "Working For the Man"

    I always heard it as

    "Working for the man
Yeah i'm working for the man
Got an egg in my hand
Cause I'm working for the man..."

I thought it was some kind of anti-establishment thing:D

I think the actual lyric is "got an ache in my hand"

    Real lyric:

The Southern Pacific leaving at 9:45
I’m having a hard time believing some people were ever alive.

    What I heard:

This party started specifically at 9:45.
I’m having a hard time believing some people will ever arrive.

In Ian Dury & The Blockheads' What A Waste I thought it was burst my nerves every one night stand, rather than first night nerves. As an eleven year old I thought that was entirely plausible

Someone I used to work with thought The Beat's Mirror In The Bathroom was actually called N-word In The Bathroom and wondered how they could get away with it

And another someone I worked with though the line tonight, the streets are full of actors in Eighth Wonder's I'm Not Scared was tonight, the streets are full of bastards!

Almost forty years too late, I've just learnt that the chorus of "West End Girls" is:

"In a West End town, a dead-end world
The East End boys and West End girls"

I've spent decades now quite sure that it was

"In a West End town that didn't want
The East End boys and West End girls"

And I much prefer my lyrics! I'm kind of saddened to learn that the lyrics are what they actually are.

And if you listen closely to the original 1984 version, it was

"In a West End town, a dead-end world
Meet East End boys and West End girls"

Of course, that version also has a verse with a line about Stalin in it too.
