England Dan & John Ford Coley's "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight".

I dunno which it is, "There's a warm wind blowin', the stars are out...", or, "There's a warm wind blowin' the stars around..."

That's a good one you can bring up in mixed company, and never come to a conclusion! (Everybody does agree though, he really wants to see her tonight. )

I like the idea that - like Fogerty with Bad Moon Risin', Westerberg sang it that way after he was told about it.

    And liked it better...

Also from that same song, "I'm not talking bout the linen", took me a long time to find out it's "talking about movin' in"

    Genesis, "Home By the Sea".

My dad was and still is a big DIY'er. Mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, electrical... you name it. I was familiar with soldering guns and what they did at the age of 4/5.

So, when I heard the lyric, "Let us outta here", my five-year-old brain interpreted that as:

    "Lend a solder here." :D

Rolling Stones "Jumping Jack Flash"..." I was born in a Cat=(Category) 5 hurricane" when it is..."I was born in a cross-fire hurricane". Just found out this year so that pretty much tells ya' music artists, producers and mastering engineers don't much care about enunciation of lyrics so they can be heard and understood when played back on all listening devices.

I dunno if anybody else already pointed it out, but that's Kate Bush singing on Games Without Frontiers. At first I thought she said "she's so popular."

Sultans of Swing - I heard "he doesn't want to make that Creole scene" instead of "he wasn't want to make it cry or sing."

From "Addicted To Love": "Henny Youngman is all you crave."

I've got plenty of 'mondegreen' moments in my life, but the second I'm asked, my mind goes blank!

For a long time I thought it was Satanic because I misheard it on the radio as "we are the priests of the temples of Satan" instead of "temples of Syrinx."

Two from the 80s...which I only realised were (badly) wrong a couple of years ago:

"Feel the smack of fun go red" - Pet Shop Boys, King's Cross... it's "feel the smack of firm government".

"Overloaded ox, suitable for rent" Bros, 10 out of 10... it's "overloaded ark, suitable for rain".

I have loads of these, I wasn't able to read lyric booklets and stuff for a long time due to my health, and so everything I heard from about 1987 to 1996, was interpreted purely by listening and then getting it wrong.

Hilarious! I think that's what I heard as well.

What's sort of ironic is last Friday I just heard Eagle's Hotel California played on a Bluetooth speaker the size of coffee cup at my local laundry mat. I could hear more detail in the lyrics with lead vocals incredibly up front with clearer enunciation of consonants and vowel sounds and bass punch than I've ever heard when I played it back in high school on a cassette Walkman and small boombox.

The maintenance man who was cleaning up for Covid prep and I struck up a conversation on how amazingly clear and loud that tiny cup could put out so much high quality sound. He said his 9 year old daughter set it up for him and downloaded an EQ that made it sound like that.

This is what we were listening on...

I thought the line was "wouldn't be in this master daze" for only about 30 years.

S/b "wouldn't be in this mess today."

It sounded better than all the Muzak output from all the dept. store's I've frequented and all the FM radio stations I've listened to in the last 40 years.

After hearing it, I've come to the conclusion Bluetooth streaming is going to be the future and the end of disc media even though I don't want to admit it. A 9 year old knows how to program the correct EQ for the style of music to be played better than any radio DJ I've ever heard. It's a game changer. I have no doubts about it.
