This misheard lyric is featured in a scene from the Geena Davis movie ' The Long Kiss Goodnight.'
She's riding in a car with Samuel L Jackson and that song comes on the radio.
    He starts singing : " I'm not talking ' bout meridian '
She tells him how stupid he is and tells him the right lyric.

I didn't know it was Kate Bush until someone on this very forum told me. Then I forgot it was her. And now you've reminded me again that it is her. I won't forget this time.

This one is a bit ridiculous, but in the Velvet Underground's "The Murder Mystery," I thought the spoken word line "The tailor couldn't mend straight" was "The tailor couldn't menstruate."

This probably wasn't such a leap, considering how risque some of the lines were in that section of the song.

That 's an old joke. It was the cross-eyed seamstress who couldn't mend straight.

    Lyrics be damned!

I'ld get a really good laugh if one of those "take me serious cuz' I'm an artist" behind the music documentaries or even better yet one of those Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award docs actually had someone wax poetic, deep and philosophical reciting the lyrics in their favorite song in how it changed their lives and abruptly in front of the camera were corrected those weren't the actual lyrics just as we've been corrected in this thread.

My wife told me that she thought Falco’s “Vienna Calling” was actually “The Anaconda” when she was a kid. Now I hear that every time the song gets played.

Reminded me of how we used to think Donnie Iris' "Ah, Leah" was "The Audience."

Not that it makes any sense, but as a kid I thought I heard "I"m not talking 'bout millenium." I have no idea why...

When 'Bohemian Rhapsody' first came out in the 70s, I thought Freddie was singing "Spare him his life from his warm sausages" instead of "Spare him his life from this monstrosity".

Freud would have a field day with this thread... although sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and a muffled lyric is just a muffled lyric.

I once heard a lyric as "come on daddy slip off my dress and we'll have some fun" when the actual lyric was "and we'll have fun fun fun till her daddy takes the T-Bird away".

Listen to the opening chorus of Abba's "People Need Love".
Here 's what I heard: "People need hope, people need lovin', people need drugs from a bare old man..."

I was only 7-8 years old in 1974 when this came out. Being that age, I only got the circus motif of the song.

I thought the line in the chorus was.......

    Let the sideshow begin
Hurry hurry step right on in
    Cannonballs will pass you by
    Guaranteed to make you cry.

Hell, that's just my whole courtship with my wife-to-be. She'd been in radio for years, yet when it came to singing along with a song on the radio or tv...chances were 50/50 she'd blow a lyric.
