As I've been saying to a couple of folks on private chat, I let the player I'm using auto-downmix from a flac 5.1 file, to stereo. Most software does this these days.

So all you need is the 5.1 flac file, and the player on your laptop or phone will do the rest.

As I said, I think the 5.1-to-stereo fold-down sounds better than the original stereo. I'm of the opinion that going back to the multi-tracks usually always results in better sound. I've been listening to the originals for decades, but I have no nostalgic or emotional attachment to them.

Hmm. Call me simple minded but I just think there may be a middle ground option somewhere..! :shh:

This mix and the 2018 mix are very similar - except for the vocal. The "Love" version has a (too) naturalistic sound, whereas the 2018 mix reintroduces the pinched distortion heard on the original stereo. This is a big improvement in my mind, as it's a rock and roll song that sounds better with a "record-y" vocal, like a lot of effort was put into the singing.

"Love" gets a lot of, well, love, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's one of those things that just gets repeated these days. Again they're similar mixes, but the vocal treatment on the WA remix is much better suited to the song (IMHO!).

I must have one of the 37 copies then, b/c the book in my LIB box is still pretty much intact.

Arnie, you'd best do a recount of yours!

I think you’ve put John’s nose out of joint. :)

The only thing worse than a bunch of mean, gossipy high school girls are a bunch of middle-aged men angry at Yoko Ono for some reason.

Because rather than go to the Himalayas to do a cover photoshoot for Everest, they could just go outside and do a cover photoshoot for Abbey Road.... :shtiphat:

Edit: I mean, c'mon people, if you're going to repeat the same tired old stories over and over, you might as well get them right.

Would the cover have been a photo of Billy Preston's left foot? And would he have been barefoot? ;)

I can't speak for the person who edited out Yoko no more than whoever made the studio graphic I posted. Mine was a joke of the tangent subject of the "reunion", which of course would not have happened if Yoko held back John's music. Doesn't mean I'm angry at her.

She could be annoying at times but overall I'm okay with Yoko. A great artist in her own right. Yoko was John's soul mate he loved her and I respect that.

Seriously, 1968 was the wild year: assassinations, student protests, tanks in Czechoslovakia, escalation in Vietmnam, Nixon wins, and so on.
1969 was a walk in the park compared to 1968 (that is, unless you were walking around Altamont).

Probably that the year started normally for the Beatles with a breakup as the last thing on their minds and ended with them broken up.
