The Jack - great lyrics and great guitar playing but it does drag a little. It's A Long Way To the Top - incredible. classic. Rock 'n' Roll Singer - has a lot of the ingredients of a great AC/DC song but doesn't quite get there (for me)
This song is quite unique. The raging riff combined with that blaring bagpipe; it’s ridiculous and it really shouldn’t work, but it does, in a glorious way!
I am but there are no hard and fast rules as long as we go down the line chronologically. I think maybe we should only do the Aussie editions up until Highway To Hell and not basically talk about the same albums twice, even though there are some differences. Dirty Deeds should be an exception though because of the US 1981 release which is how some of us discovered the band.
If it’s ok I would like to mention the odd differences on Let There Be Rock and Powerage under the same banner in a seperate paragraph underneath my album reviews. I think you’re right about DDDDC as I think the international release is a different animal than the Aussie one. And what about ‘74 Jailbreak?
Hey I hope you didn't mind me posting the songs and stuff... it seemed like you just wanted an open thing, and I'm all about some songs. Apologies if I was out of line
I thought it was four out of three! I lived up in Cairns and then Ferntree Gully for a while. Inspired by this thread, I put all the Bon Scott AC/DC on the player and played the Oz and international versions, cut out the duplicates and gave the neighbours four hours of great music. Though 'Love Song' must be a cover from Tap's '**** Sandwich'.
Live Wire I always loved the way the bass is just chugging along, and the the chords come in kind of gently, and then the general build up just really worked for me, with the bass just thumping away. It kind of works as a good tension builder and then we break to the chorus for the tension release. This setup repeats and we move into an instrumental breakdown. Such a simple little back and forth riff, with Bon ad libbing on top of it ... I always enjoyed "stick that in your fuse box" ... Angus gives us a really nice cutting lead break, and we break down into the back and forth riff, some feedback, and then roll back into the groove. The returning vocal has more urgency ... this rolls into an out-chorus and Bon and Angus hold fort.
TNT The fact that this track only got to 19 on the Aussie singles chart, really doesn't reflect how big it was. I was in school... I don't know grade 2 or 3 or something like that ... We loved it.... even 5 or 6 years later in high school this song was big. This track was just always there. Again, we get that cool rock groove and Bon adding the character on top of the groove. Again Angus rips off a great lead ... I have a mate in the US (believe it or not) and he reckons all Acdc songs are defined by "Oi" ... so i guess it got heard a lot over here also lol The chaotic ending was always something a little different too.
Cairns and Ferntree Gully. You certainly were in prime AcDc country! Do you have an affinity for rain forests Ferntree Gully is such a wonderful area. Magic.
If I remember Acdc were competing for radio air with Sherbet and Skyhooks round this time. And we were in the frenzy of Abbamania too. The TNT album made #2 though. I love all the iconic film clips we got with each release while the band was still based in Australia. Baby Please Don't Go, Long Way To The Top, Jailbreak and Let There Be Rock. Apparently Bon nearly got blown up for real in the Jailbreak clip, and broke his ankle in the Let There Be Rock clip. Lucky he didn't fall off the truck with his bagpipes for Long Way To The Top
