I'm tempted, but I have 2 copies of the cd already, both are early U.S., and sound good....same mastering? I bet someone here grabs it soon

Ugh. I wanted to snag this, but I just can't do it with that high shipping fee.

How much were expecting to land a mega rare 1st pressing for? :wtf: Less than $30 seems pretty reasonable to me.

Does this CD sound any different than the 1st US pressing?

That kind of killed it for me too. I have bought from other sellers in Japan and the shipping cost is not that high. I still have the window open though!

Same mastering as the 20P2, but rare.

The 20P2 disc is much more common. I'm surprised how rare the 32XD disc is. It rarely comes up for sale in any condition.

Someone grabbed this copy. $30 shipped was a great deal, unless it is thoroughly trashed.

It most certainly does. Either the 20P2 or the 32XD beat the US. Atco and Atlantic pressings with ease for me.

Compared this one to 'death' and I was able to discern no difference. I stopped compare digitally identical discs 2 years ago. Whether some extremely minute differences exist or not no longer concerns me as I won't waste the time, effort or money on it. I still compare different masterings as that is is where the real differences lie.

For the record I own the Japan 32XD CD and a US specialty (SRC) CD. The 32XD cost me $40 more than the US SRC.

The collect-ability of the 32XD is what attracts much interest, and BIB is a tough one to find. I myself am or was a 1st pressing collector of many catalogs so I more than understand that aspect.

I once was planning to buy CDs from this seller, but the shipping costs ruined it for me. Even for 3 CDs the total shipping fee would've been almost as much as the value of those CDs.

I don't do much selling, but I know scamming money on shipping fees is a great way to avoid potential buyers. I'm not blaming it all on this particular seller (at least he's offering registered), but most of the shipping fees I've seen from Japan have been under that scale.

It depends on who you ask :)

I could detect no differences between a US, 20P2 and 32XD disc. I no longer have any of the three so my comparisons are done :(

As I recall, the original U.S. issue of Back in Black was mastered by Barry Diament. Based on ricks' comment, I would guess that Barry's mastering was used in Japan for the 32XD and 20P2 issues. It was probably used in Europe as well.

I've never run the 32XD, 20P2, Japan-for-U.S., or West German-for-U.S. CDs through EAC, but they all sound very good to me.

The three I owned all had the same EAC numbers FWIW.

32XD and US SRC are exactly the same, and Barry has confirmed all 3 being the same. IIRC correctly someone did a null test years ago as well.

    Thanks for the confirmation.

My 32XD disc still has a lovely OBI strip. :D

Which is why the original Albert Japan will never be better than the 32XD

Mine doesn't - maybe that's why I don't get superior sound over the stock SRC US disc?
