Certainly they smiled and laughed, but not very often — and as they got older, even less.

Edward James Olmos in Miami Vice.

Rare exception: the episode where Spock's emotions are allowed to bloom, in "This Side of Paradise."

I couldn’t believe he won an Emmy for that role.

Olmos actually was (and is) a very, very good actor. I thought he gave several riveting performances on Miami Vice; he was a much better actor than the other regulars, IMHO.

BTW, Jack Riley was a very funny man and a fantastic VO actor for radio commercials, and I recorded him quite a few times in the late 1970s. He really did laugh -- loud and often -- and was a very funny man who had a lot more range than we ever saw on Bob Newhart.

I always liked him as Mr. Carlin on The Bob Newhart Show...

As Elliot Carlin, he may not have laughed or smiled, but he did so well in the role comedy wise, you knew he had to have a sense of humor in "real life".

There was a Christmas movie Charles Bronson made in the early 90s, with Ed Asner and Richard Thomas, which saw Bronson displayed a gentler side of himself.

I know....putting the words "Christmas movie" and "Charles Bronson" together in one sentence is kinda odd.

Btw, here's an amusing story about Charles Bronson, as told by Kirk Russell....

Craig Stevens as Peter Gunn would smile in his scenes with Lola Albright as Edie Hart. I always thought they had great chemistry on screen.
