Actors Who Play Two or More Characters in the Same Movie

Recently posted about actors who play multiple characters in a movie series. This led me to notice that in the movie Bikini Beach no only does Frankie Avalon play his normal role of Frankie in the movie, but he also played the Potato Bug (per Wikipedia a character inspired by The Beatles).

Peter Sellers is well known for playing multiple roles in some movies. In Doctor Strangelove or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb he played three roles (he was also supposed to play the role of the aircraft commander but had to pass due to an injury, the role went to Slim Pickens).

What other movies feature one actor who plays multiple roles in the same movie?

 

Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins plays two roles.

 

His second role is only a cameo, but if you watch MILLER'S CROSSING carefully, lead Albert Finney plays a woman in the ladies bathroom when Gabriel Byrne's Tom enters to confront Verna. Apparently this was the very last scene shot on the last day and Finney just did it for fun.

 

Eddie Murphy did this multiple times, most effectively as Kit and Jif in the excellent "Bowfinger".

He also played more than one character in the very not-excellent "Norbit" as well as the "Nutty Professor" movies.

Probably others, too - those 4 immediately come to mind...

 

In the 1994 movie Cemetery Man, Anna Falchi plays at least three different characters - I don't remember how many. She is credited as "She."

 

Jerry Lewis in the family jewels played seven roles.

 

I just finished watching a pretty decent SciFi b flick starring Noomi Rapace called “7 Sisters” (titled “What Happened to Monday?” in some parts of the world) and she plays all 7 Sisters in a dystopian future where only one child is allowed and others are forcibly taken away and put into cryosleep until they can figure out how to feed the world.

It’s not a classic, but it’s catchy enough and worth watching for Rapace’s fervour tackling all seven roles. Good pacing and satisfying ending.

 

Roger Ebert argued that Murphy deserved an Oscar nod for how convincingly he did the two roles in Bowfinger. I agree, although everyone thinks I'm crazy if I say so.

 

I don't - I would also agree! "Bowfinger" was probably Murphy's finest hour...

 

Robin Williams plays 5 different characters in different time periods in the movie Being Human.

They're all named Hector.

 

Does playing twins count? No? Okay, let me think.

There’s the stupid Adam Sandler movie where he plays a man and woman. I’ve never seen it and can’t remember the name, but it looks god awful.
