    Tom Baker as Doctor Who.

At least 13 actors have now played this role on television, but to many Tom is still the definitive Doctor. And of all of the actors to play the role, Tom played it the most with his own personality defining his performance. He basically just played the role as himself, having to do very little acting to create the character.

He threw himself into the character, almost to the point of obsession. He closely studied the Sherlock Holmes stories to make sure he captured every nuance of the role correctly. Even small details were captured that most viewers probably didn't notice. For example, the trademark deerstalker hat is something that you see in almost every previous depiction of Holmes. But Brett correctly understood that Holmes only wore the trademark hat when he was traveling outside of London, therefore his character only wore the hat in episodes that occurred in the countryside.

Tim Roth in the Tim Burton remake of the Planet of the apes. A really bad movie except for Tim's performance. He was that Chimpanzee.

I think the failure of the Han Solo movie demonstrated there was only one actor for that role.

Oddly, though, I think someone might have a slightly better chance at playing Indiana Jones. Not sure why. I feel like the character isn't quite so dependent on the actor's charisma.

Whenever I see him in "The Boys", I can't help but think Gus Fring runs the company that owns the 'supes'!

I agree with these since I grew up on the old FUNimation dub.
Still the best adaptations on these characters by far. Just a shame the Killing Joke which will likely be both their final outings in each role was so poor.

Jeremy Brett for me is the definitive Holmes. Faithful to the source material in his portrayal and a wonderful actor. When I read Conan-Doyle's stories it is Brett who I have in my head.
Also well served by both David Burke and Edward Hardwicke as Dr. Watson.

Indeed, same with the inverness cape as well. I love this setup they did for the TV Series straight from a Sydney Paget illustration.

William Shatner as Denny Crane. He was basically playing an exaggerated version of himself.

  16. Wish this would get an updated Blu. The UK version is region locked. I,woild buy it but every time I do that, we get a U.S. release that improves on the UK with more bonus features. I’ve had the opposite occur as well.

  17. For me:
    Dracula-Chris Lee
    James Bond-Connery
    Van Helsing-Cushing
Batman-Michael Keaton (alth9ugh I really like Ben Affleck)
    Frankenstein’s Monstee-Karloff (Lee is a close second)
Sherlock Holmes-Cushing although Rathbone is great. I first saw Cushing in the role. He cemented it for me.
Hercules-Kevin Sorbo,(although I disagree politically with the guy he’s awesome in the role)
    Joker-Heath Ledger
Superman-Chris Reeve (although I think that Henry Cavill is a close second)

  18. So much so that Gary Oldman echoed Harris performance in his in the film.

Hi, like many of your posts I come across :)
I thought it was very good. I don't ever remember seeing this on tv.
This had more of a story than many boxing films, very believable as a boxer, and thought the lead actress and Garfield had a lot of chemistry. He was a unique screen presence and it's a shame he died so young. He should be remembered more so than he is.
I posted somewhere else about Fallen Sparrow , never saw that and it is supposed to be on tv later this week. Is that a good one ? What else do you recommend of his?
