I was driving home the other night and the local station was playing Janie's Got a Gun. I was singing along, horribly, and when it got to the part "She had to take him down in easy and put a bullet in his brain" instead it was "she left him in the pouring rain". I forgot about the edited version.
Has anyone bought Oh Yeah, and which version is on there.
I don't really want to buy this if it is the edited version.
    Thanks for the help,
    Aaron

Can anyone also confirm that the version of "Draw The Line" is the stereo version on Oh Yeah.

Just curious guys. Do you own Pump? Isn't that the non-edited version? It is on my copy, mind you, mine is a "Promo only, not for resale" version. Sorry, can't help with Oh Yeah.

    HI Dave,
That is true. I was looking at picking up a greatest hits and wasn't sure if I should get Greatest hits and Big Ones or if the Oh Yeah was good. Pump is good, but I am looking for more
    Thanks,
    Aaron

Just a thought here. Rather than spend 25-30 bucks on Oh Yeah at the store, a much better bet would be to go to cheap-cds.com and pick up the first 4 albums (Aerosmith, Get Your Wings, Toys In The Attic, Rocks) for 45 bucks. These are the albums upon which Aerosmith's reputation is built. The first album is a little weak, but the rest are solid and have many great non-single songs.

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

I never heard any censored versions of "Janie's Got A Gun" on any CD or on radio. One of my favorite songs, too!

I say, get the whole "Pump" remasterd CD. I think it's their best work on Geffen.

I believe the censored version is either the video edit or the single edit.
IIRC, VH-1 or someone didn't like the "bullet in the brain line". so they changed it. I remember top forty stations playing the edited version when it came out, but it threw me for a loop upon hearing it again.
    Thanks,
    Aaron

It's NOT on the single edit. I guess the censored version was only shipped to radio as an alternative to avoid upsetting people. Radio around here played the uncersored version.

Mike, you should really listen to the first album again. It's not weak at all. I'd give it four out of five stars. The second album is a bit better, the third is better still, and 'Rocks' is best of all. But all four are good. I'd say about half of 'Draw the Line' is up to snuff and about a third of 'A Night in the Ruts.'

Ok I'll agree with you on that. :D It is a great album. I take it back!

I have the original promo CD single (not in front of me, alas), and it has three different versions of "Janie's Got a Gun." One of these is probably the "altered lyrics" version, which I heard on most Top 40-style stations that played the song when most of my radio listening was to radio stations that emanated from Philadelphia. AOR or "classic rock" stations usually played the uncensored version. I'll update when I get a chance.

Alas, I had to get the promo CD single, as this was one of the first big hit singles not to be issued on 45 in the U.S. (it still hasn't been). The only way to get it as a single commercially in the States was on a (pardon the expression) cassette single. Eventually, I got the U.K. 45, which contains the full uncensored LP version.

I have "O, Yeah!" (I bought it mostly because I had to have the bonus 10-inch vinyl single, and I have nothing else full-length by Aerosmith on CD).

To answer the first question: "Janie's Got a Gun" is the full-length uncensored version.

To answer the second question: "Draw the Line" is in stereo, in an unusually well separated mix, too. The liner notes claim the track was remixed (by Don DeVito).

The liner notes to the CD say that it was mastered by Dave Donnelly at DNA Mastering.

Finally, on the "censored" version of "Janie's Got a Gun":
The first track on the promo CD single is the "CHR Edit/Remix" (4:18) with a trimmed intro, early fade, and the "left him in the pouring rain" lyric.
The second track on the promo CD is "CHR Full Intro Remix" (4:30) with, as it says, the full length intro, early fade, and again, the altered lyrics.
The third track on the promo CD is "LP Version" (5:29) and is just that, with the "bullet in his brain" lyrics.

The remix of "Draw The Line" on Oh Yeah!, to me, sounds horrible. My major beef is the drum track. It sounds fake...

I'll just stick to the mono album version, thank you.
