    Whoa!

You certainly seem to feel strongly about this...

This is just Steve's forum. It's not a company he runs.

Asking him to get directly involved is likely to permanently close this thread...

From what I recall, initial feedback was slow at first due to the distribution issues. But that feedback was lukewarm at best. It didn't take long at all for someone to mention the new one sounded almost exactly like the pre-remix cd version...

His word. Not everyone has the equipment or the software to make the comparison that he does. I certainly don't. Just putting up samples that are allegedly from two different discs doesn't help prove anything.

What's wrong with Jamie calling Audio Fidelity with his findings? Certainly he had no problem when he called THEM out. But he gets called out and says, 'nevermind'? That doesn't fly.

He is a professional and has put his word on the line with an accusation. Having worked in the court system, I can tell you that an accusation without positive proof is not a good thing. Just saying that you had two different samples without PROVING that they ARE two different samples is not good enough. I can put up two samples of something and TELL you guys that they are from two different cds. I can tweak the EQ on one of them and say, "SEE??!!" And I could do it all from one single cd and you are telling me that you would believe me??

Do you believe all of the same forwarded e-mails that have been going around for years that say Andy Rooney said this or Robin Williams said that? And do you then pass them on to other friends? Or do you want proof first?

Seriously, Jamie needs to make good in his accusations. If he has proof, he needs to bring it to Marshall, pronto.

Just saying that he is done posting on this topic for three or four posts is not good enough.

Simple. IF Jamie's findings show that AF hasn't used the master tape and they claim that they have, there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

If AF hasn't used the master and they don't claim to have used the master, it's another SHF tempest in a teapot.

I think it is better if we give Jamie Gloria Allred's or Al Sharpton's phone number before Audio Fidelity's.

I do. Because it irks me to no end when someone accuses someone of something, claim to have proof, and then find an excuse when asked to bring that proof to the table.

Jamie is no idiot. Not by any means. But you can't put someone's business and livelihood on the line by making accusations that suddenly aren't important when Steve asks for your phone number so that you can discuss it with the person you are accusing of falsehood.

There are lawyers on this forum. I know there are. What happens when someone makes an accusation and then feigns indifference when asked to show proof??

Now watch! I will post no more in this thread. Big deal you say and I would agree. But I am not going to post three for four more times to tell everyone that. :D

What is John Grisham's phone number?

Is Tom Cruise too old now to play Jamie?

I've read the posts and agree w/some and disagree w/others -- however; saying that, one thing is obvious, especially since the mastering is leaning towards a digital copy -- AF should provide a response.

I signed up to AF for claims we all remember well -- mastering by SH, and from the analogue tapes and agreed to pay a premium for unique gold CD's I cherrish and can't buy at B&N nor Borders.

If they are mastering this and future Gold CD's from digital, they can skip sending me the digital copies and just send me those they do from analogue tapes; period.

For AF -- as I heard & preached to others in the military for 24 years -- GET YOUR **** TOGETHER!!!

    Bob

P.S. Just received an email from AF advising they have S&G Sounds of Silence; I sure hope there isn't a negative thread in a week or so about this one (too).

Wow... this is disappointing to hear seeing as how I got a new copy in the mail today :sigh:. Now I have to decide whether to open it or send it back.

99% of this forum could - if they wanted to - do the same test Jamie did. They would only need some free software and the discs (or rips of them).

Huh? What does him calling AF have to do with any of that?

Again, anyone with a computer, some free software and the discs can do exactly what Jamie did.

Setting aside the methodology to test that the AF Gold is sourced from the original CD, answer this:

If Sundazed was able to use the original master tape for their vinyl release, why wouldn't AF be able to use that same tape as well? That's just plain puzzling and bizarre.

Also, AF has canceled some releases (a Rickie Lee Jones and a B-52s title come to mind) because master tapes couldn't be located. If they had done cancellations before, I don't see why they wouldn't have done the same for this Simon & Garfunkel release as well.

I will of course try to reproduce Jamie's test once I have the time and report back. I have both CDs, it is very easy to do.

    All speculation -

Sundazed makes more money than AF?

Irwin was mistaken when he said he had found the masters?

Something went wrong this time that doesn't normally go wrong?

    More speculation -

S&G is a big name that sells especially well to AF's demographic? Sony left a unique void in the audiophile marketplace by remixing the first three albums? Sony changed their minds on license fees after AF had already committed money to the project?

How do you expect him to prove the results of his null test? Post a video of himself performing the test, so we can all directly witness the results? Why would he lie about the results of such a test when they can (and likely will) be easily replicated by others on this forum? What would be proven by his contacting Marshall Blonstein or AF? I suppose there's three possibilities here: the CDs are sourced from the same 80's digital transfer, or Jamie is lying, or Jamie screwed up the null test somehow and got a false positive. Calling Marshall won't resolve which of these possibilities is true. At any rate, I'd say the shoe is on the other foot... if you want to imply that Jamie is being dishonest or is inaccurate in his null test, the responsibility is on you to cite some proof to support either contention.

AF has had problems with previous issues that had errors/issues/mistakes; whatever you want to call the fault/blunder/oversight that made it all the way to the consumer. Morrison Hotel & Second Helping come to mind quickly.

I want to stand tall and speak acolades to promote AF when I speak their name -- but, they are loosing my trust and confidence at each release.

But why does this seem of particular interest to only you thus far?

Or, do you feel you are merely speaking on behalf of many others choosing to remain silent?

We don't know Jamie's reasons for anything. Though it would seem he has nothing to gain by lying, and is probably too knowledgeable to be wrong.

We don't know AF's reasons for anything. Though some of us do feel AF has built up a quite questionable history/reputation as of late.

But even if this resulted in less sales from this forum, I doubt it would seriously hurt AF. They don't print these things in massive numbers. As far as possible loss of club memberships, I'm not certain the majority of the people with memberships care about this issue (or, at least, care enough to cancel over it). Regardless, as big as we think we are, IMO we don't really wield that much power. Not even in the audiophile marketplace...

    By whom/how/why?

I think, by default, it's already too late for AF to claim that they never said they used the master tape. Unless it was by mistake. Though, if it was by mistake, why has it not been addressed yet?

Oh, I'm interested, too...why no one has seen fit to use a 19th century device to call someone who has the answer to the $29.99 question? I've got no horse in this race -- only heard stereo two-eye of this title -- so I'll continue my anthropological survey from the stands. :)
