Looking through the dollar bins at the used record shows I am absolutely amazed how many covers (old or new) either have no band and/or album name or are just unreadable without studying it carefully. I wonder how many would have sold better otherwise?

A lot of these albums had stickers on the shrink wrap with the title on them, so I don't think not having a title on the cover hurt sales all that much. It didn't seem to hurt The Dark Side of the Moon.

Is this Beyoncé's self-titled? I'm just guessing based on the color scheme.

The title is conveyed only through the medium of imagery.

For Led Zeppelin, Houses of the Holy better fits the description in my opinion.

This seems highly dependent on the edition. Many albums have alternative covers for different formats, with or without text.

It does precisely what the o.p. said and completely omits the album title from the front cover.

I’ll admit that copious Led Zeppelin albums do this, but for me Houses of the Holy has always been the most glaring examplar of this.
