  1. Albums are not dead to me. Even my downloads are full albums and arranged as such except for a relatively few songs or unique mixes that do not exist on an album or compilation.

    o_O What does the band Styx's act of self-immolation have to do with the death of the album? I'm assuming that your reference was intended to be tongue-in-cheek, but if so, I still don't get it...

    "Modern Dad" is more of a philosophy of life than a cogent view or understanding of music. It is its own thing.

    Zero physical sales (no CDs pressed) just 823 iTunes downloads. And 83 million streams. On average, that's 1 in 100,000 streamers making a purchase:shake:

    Well isn't "album" an arrangement of music for vinyl LPs, 2 or 4 sides with a purpose and lasting 35-45 (70-90 for doubles) minutes. Or a modified "album" being 1 or 2 sides with a purpose and lasting 70-80 minutes (140-160 for double) in the CD format. Can't you do the same with downloads and streaming?

    Introducing modern single-parent dad. A more niche marketing vision. Being a single parent, modern single-parent dad only works part time, so he can look after his kid.

    He can't do power lunches, kill in the office, or take the wife or mistress out for swanky dinners, then back to the hotel for, well you know.... As a result, he doesn't have a lot of time, but has become less prone to complacency, so his taste is a bit edgier. He has time enough to check out Pitchfork and the needledrop guy on youtube every once in a while. Right now his son unequivocally loves whatever music dad likes, but within five years by the time son turns 15, this will have reversed, and dad will no longer be edgy.

    Modern Dad is too busy to sit and listen to music all by itself. As such, he has no traditional stereo component system, thus he has no place to play his physical media, and so he has purchased a pair of Bose headphones, a HomePod, a BMW with CarPlay, and an Apple Music subscription and together that becomes his audiophile experience.

    "Hey Siri, play Bad by U2, the live version please."

    "Okay, here's Bad, live, by U2."

    "If you twist and turn away..."

    Diamond Dog Cautionary Example

    Modern Dad used to care about music and decried the lack of great works that rivaled his old familiar favourites. Now Modern Dad just treats music like background noise that drowns out the voices in his head while he goes about his routines. Modern Dad has lost his mojo. Modern Dad is now just "dad".... sigh.

    Post-Modern Pater is bemused.

    Post-Modern Pater has made a pact with his friends. One of Post-Modern Pater's friends would, ostensibly, sneak up from behind Post-Modern Pater with a brick, and catch him swiftly and cleanly on his brain stem if Post-Modern Pater ever transgresses to consistently assimilating music in a manner wholly deviant from that which he has engaged throughout his earthly existence.

    Post-Modern Pater would want it this way.

    * side note (therapeutic division)

    Post-Modern Pater's 23 year-old daughter all-but loathes Elvis Costello. Post-Modern Pater has accepted this. Post-Modern Pater blames himself. And so Castles Made of Sand...

    Before he could lose it, wouldn't he have to have some mojo to begin with ?
