IMO this is a great choice to start the thread, because while many other albums have had more singles peeled off, this was one of the very first LPs to have five singles released.

Especially all in one country. I notice some of the albums posted so far include a mix, where songs A, B, C, and D were issued in the USA, while songs A, B, F and G were released in the UK. IMO, that should count as 4 singles in each country, not six singles overall.

I kinda feel like that one is only able to counted as a technicality, since no single country ever saw more than 4, and most only 3. I feel like by the time of Achtung Baby, they knew they had the popularity to sustain five singles, world-wide.

I agree with this. I would have framed the original post as "5 singles released in a country", because IMO that's different than releasing four singles in say the UK and USA, but a different mix of songs. But it's not my thread, LOL.

If you combine US and UK singles, Elton John's Breaking Hearts:

    Sad Songs Say So Much
    Passengers (UK)
    Who Wears These Shoes
    In Neon (US)
    Breaking Hearts (UK)

Dexys Midnight Runners Too-Rye-Ay contained five songs that had had/would appear on 7" as an A-side in the UK, although the first and second singles listed here were re-recorded for the album:

    • Plan B
    • Liars A To E
    • The Celtic Soul Brothers
    • Come On Eileen
    • Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile)

you're wrong about the reasoning, there is no cashing in, and no vinyl craze.
they're releasing all their singles again, because of the super deluxe boxsets
of movement, and power corruption and lies, with more singles coming out
    eventually.

i agree, to some people substance it the only new order album that they have,
and since most of those songs never appeared on an album, this is an actual album for them.

its certainly not a greatest hits, as only 2 songs went top 10 in the uk, with the
rest doing a lot more poorly. only a single song made it into the top 40 in the US,
and that was true faith at 32, the rest didn't even chart, except perfect kiss at 109,
and bizarre love triangle at 98.

also, i didn't see any restrictions on when singles were released, so why limit them.

The Chicago album with the most singles is, oddly enough, Chicago 19. Four Top Ten hits and one flop:

I Don't Wanna Live Without your Love
    Look Away
    you're Not Alone
    We Can Last Forever (flop)
What Kind of Man Would I Be

    Let's go back to 1977:

Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. This one is a bit tricky because it contains a lot of previously-released singles, but for this list, i'll keep it to these songs that were released as a result of the album.

How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees
    Staying Alive - Bee Gees
    Night Fever - Bee Gees
More Than A Woman - Tavares
    Disco Inferno - Trammps
If I Can't Have You - Yvonne Elliman
Boogie Shoes - K.C. and The Sunshine Band

I believe Motown were one of the first to do this: e.g. The Four Tops' Second Album. (Sorry I don t have a track listing to hand)
