It almost feels like an "all of the above" kind of scenario, which is definitely unfortunate.

Nice to see that there is someone else out there who loves The Ritual, though! Feels like it gets lost in the shuffle a lot of the time.

Kenny Garrett - Beyond The Wall (Nonesuch. Great album, mastered at DR8 on the CD. Nonesuch releases a lot of cool music, but I wonder what the thought process was around the decision to crush the dynamics on a recording featuring Kenny Garrett, Pharoah Sanders, Bobby Hutcherson, Brian Blade and Mulgrew Miller? Did someone think the key to cultivating new listeners of modern acoustic jazz was to make it louder than all heck with no dynamics? At the expense of existing fans of modern acoustic jazz who know what its supposed to sound like?

Elvis Costello's "My Aim is True".
I wish I could go back in time and re-record this album. A new master of the current recording won't help much.

Oooo, I can't go along with that. My Aim is True is a quintessential Stiff album, recorded in short bursts within a short combined period while Elvis worked his ass off trying to get out of his IT job. If Stiff had access to high-end studios, and the artists had been gtiven the time to get things just so, then we'd of lost so much.

My Aim is True is perfect as is, and no amount of time or effort could ever have achieved something quite so real, imo.

Aimee Mann's "I'm With Stupid" could use a remaster. Terrible dynamics and blurry bass.

    I know that some of these already remastered but they still suck on CD;
    Operation:Mindcrime - QUEENSRYCHE
Frances the Mute - THE MARS VOLTA
    War of Kings - EUROPE
Shake Your Money Maker - BLACK CROWES
    S/T - DREAM THEATER
S/T - VAN HALEN (I'm not rich enough for the DCC)

ABBA´s catalogue - they got some of the Deluxe Editions right, but I would love to hear ABBA on a well-mastered SACD. Just hinting, knowing will never happen.

Art Blakey's Moanin', RVG edition! I refuse to believe this was remastered by Rudy. The piano is clipping so badly in places... it sounds like a school-kid's garage band project. Totally in need of remastering!

    I hear ya.

Myself, I prioritized the DCCs long ago, after hearing CD-Rs of the DCC Highway 61, City to City and Van Halen S/T. I found these, especially the latter title, weere so much better than the original CD mastering that I had to have a copy. The more DCCs I heard, the more I wanted to get. I was poor at the time, but slowly accumulated most the DCCs (Rock/Pop/Soul/Jazz titles included) as I could get the money. I've always thought there was something special about Steve's work for DCC, so I feel the DCCs are worth every penny.

My opinion: Unless the artist expresses dissatisfaction, any released album does not need remastering. It can be assumed it sounds as intended.

That only works if the artist is alive. Unfortunately in the most important cases, they often are not ;)

So all those albums released prior 1982 where the artist did not express dissatisfaction with the LP should not have been released on CD?
