Yes, the Lemonheads were also popular amongst girls. I think the looks of Evan Dando helped a lot.

It couldn't be his live vocal performances. Impossible.

    I liked their albums though.

I seem to remember Sting's first two albums - Dream Of The Blue Turtles and Nothing Like The Sun - cropping up a lot.

Ten years later, of course, it seemed like every female under thirty owned The Miseducation of Lauren Hill, an album I have still yet to hear.

Interestingly: Ani Difranco -- Out of Range

Those who didn't I made the mistake of introducing them to it. And then they owned it. And then we broke up.

This is one album that is very unhealthy for sustaining a relationship! o_O

It also assumes that all members went to college, and dated while they were there.

In my very small sample size circa 1992-96, Garth and modern country were very popular. This was in a middle-America state school FWIW.

Sadly this did not mesh well with my angry young man music of the era (Alice in Chains, Rage, Nirvana, etc.).

And dated a lot of girls to the point of being able to create a list around their musical tastes.

The girls I knew all had Tapestry by Carole King and they all hated Blondie (I, of course, had the hots for Debbie Harry.)
I found a girl willing to go to concerts with Deep Purple and Rainbow - and she liked them :)
    She was a keeper.
Next year we have been married for 25 years :)
And she does remind a bit of Debbie Harry...

Not the kind of post I would have expected from a Gort. Please explain how you ascertained sexual preferences from this list of albums.

Funny, but the girls I dated in retrospect had better taste than me. It were the ladies who converted me to James Brown and Curtis Mayfield, jazz, reggae and lotsa dance stuff.

Not only did every girl I dated in college have Tapestry, every girl I didn't date also had it.

One girlfriend I had in college was a dead ringer for Debbie Harry. Lots of people at school just called her Blondie (which she hated).

I was extraordinarily unsuccessful with girls at university but most of my female friends owned copies of What’s The Story Morning Glory by Oasis and Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morrissette. The blokes also had them, but they also had OK Computer and Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. I have never owned any of them, and, to the best of my knowledge, I’m the only one to frequent SHF.

Mid 70s - I saw lots and lots of "mellow" stuff. My main girl had, among others:

James Taylor - Sweet Baby James
    Carole King - Tapestry
    Eagles - Greatest Hits
    Best of Seals & Crofts
Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman
Queen - Night at the Opera
    Bob Seger - Night Moves
    Best of Bread

I pulled this Bread album out of my girlfriend's cardboard box of albums - "Put that back!" "I just wanted to play a song" "Oh no, you're just going to do what my last boyfriend did, you're going to put on Mother Freedom and crank it up". Full disclosure, this is exactly what I was going to do. Fuller disclosure, married her anyway.
