  1. Not relating to anyone I've ever dated per se, but my observation has generally been that it's mainly men who even bother to buy records. I've certainly never dated a woman with anything resembling a CD or LP collection.

Is collecting a predominantly a male preoccupation?

You would have thought the dorm could have stockpiled 10 or so of them, and shared...more money left over for afghan shawls and gods-eyes for the windows...

I was in a relationship with one girl all thru college. Her album collection included along with many others:
    Mott the Hoople
    The Moody Blues
    David Bowie
    Boston
    The Who
We alternated her and my albums while enjoying each other's company every evening.

Of course they buy stuff. Probably don't get all "catalog" though. Probably more likely to cull, clear out or put away/store music they don't listen to anymore.

There was this Four Non Blondes/"Evan Dando is my alt rock dreamboy" cult in my HS. I wonder when Jagged Little Pill album dropped in June 95 (when I graduated) the girls suddenly started recreating the "Isn't It Ironic" music video in their cars. Or moved on to Sarah McLachlan... the other next logical step.
