Apologies if this has been done recently, did a search and couldnt find it.

I walked out of work yesterday and found myself singing 'No Fronts' by Dog Eat Dog, not sure why.
This got me thinking, I bought the album 'No Boro Kings' for that one song and it was the only song I actually liked when I listened to it. This got me thinking that it wasnt the only time Id done this.

    Others include:
Wheatus - Bought the Wheatus album for 'Teenage Dirtbag'
The Divinyls - Bought the Divinyls album for 'I Touch Myself'
The Only Ones - The Immortal Story for 'Another Girl, Another Planet'

    Im sure there are others

    Anyone else?

    “Crush”

This was around the time you still had to by an album for a song as downloading on demand for the masses was not yes available.

I imagine this will be limited to the late 90’s/early 2000’s and before.

For those of a certain age, this concept will not even make sense (buying a whole album for a song without listening first).

My last few purchases have been like that. I heard a song on college radio, "Wait by the River", Lord Huron, that I thought was brilliant, so I ordered all 3 of the group's CDs, only to find that every other song they did sounds the same (not at all like "Wait..."), very boring, very poorly recorded/mastered, just plain awful.

    Pulp: His 'n' Hers
I bought it because I loved Do You Remember the First Time. The rest of the album turned out to be a massive disappointment. I haven't listened to it for ages. Maybe I should give it a try one of these days...

Plain White Ts - Every Second Counts. Bought it for Hey There Delilah.

Soul Asylum - Grave Dancers Union. Bought it for Runaway Train

Both albums are pretty well crafted but, apart from the tracks mentioned, not to my taste.

    Focus - Moving Waves

I bought it 'cause I loved Hocus Pocus,
    But there's nothing else there
    That can even compare
To their one big top 40 hit!

So I feel a bit betrayed by Focus,
    As their standard fare
    I do not care
For, even just one tiny bit!

Give it another try. It's an absolute classic. I reach for it possibly even more than 'Different Class'.

That's an easy one for me:

Martini Ranch - Holy Cow (1988)
I bought it because I really liked the 7" single Reach and its video.

The album itself dissapointed me hugely.

    Speaking of early 90s:

    Riverside – One

I bought it for the enchanting song below, which got airplay on the alternative station I was listening to at the time.

It's not that the rest of the album is bad, but it's kind of just "more of the same, but not nearly as good" as the lead track.

TFCIT! I vividly remeber that video but couldn't remember the song for the life of me.

30 year mystery finally solved. Now I've gotta go listen to it.

I also bought the Hocus Pocus single (when I was in high school) and bought this album a few weeks later...I really like it myself, especially the side-long epic "Eruption". I liked it so much I also picked up their double LP Focus III, another excellent album.

Warrior Soul - Chill Pill. Can't remember which song I heard and I can't be bothered flicking through it to see if I still like it. :)

That was a great song :) I bought the CD single but didn't invest in the album.

Your comment reminds me that the album had the full, 6-minute
version of the song (twice as much yodeling as the single!) so I
feel I need to walk back my displeasure, by at least 3 minutes!

Maybe I will start a "Battle of the 1973 hit instrumentals thread...
pitting Hocus Pocus/2001/Frankenstein/Space Race against one
    another!

(Quadrophenia wins in the non-hit category, besting Midnight Moodies,
Jessica, Funeral for a Friend, and Loup (First Indian on the Moon!)

I feel that way about The Pixies - Surfer Rosa, Come On Pilgrim

Loved Bowies version of Cactus and wanted to seek out the original....so far very disappointed with the album(s) apart from that 1 song....but I will persist.

Ozark Mountain Daredevils, I liked "Jackie Blue" so I bought the LP it was on ''It'll Shine When it Shines (?)''. I never got into the rest of the album.

Well it's not Different Class, not by a long shot, but at least give Pink Glove another listen, that was the one that I liked!
