Between this album, the first Traveling Wilburys record, and “Life Fades Away” from the ‘Less Than Zero’ soundtrack, I’d say Roy made some of the best music of his career during that last year of his life.

Yes I also have to say the time album. My favorite ELO album by far. Great songs and the melodies are just phenomenal. The instrumental another heart breaks is so cool and reminds me of kanye flavored hip hop

Exactly. Although I came to this record late (within the last five years) I am firmly convinced of its greatness.

Echo and the Bunnymen - What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?

...never gets mentioned by EATB fans. It's the only EATB album that resonates with me, and is one of my top 50 favorite albums of all time.

Various - The Stax/Volt Revue Volume II: Live in Paris (a stone-cold classic live album with the best version of Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness")

Wang Chung - To Live And Die In L.A. (one of the most epic 80s soundtracks released to my ears)

Elmer Bernstein & The Chico Hamilton Quintet - Sweet Smell of Success (another soundtrack to an amazing movie, drowned in 50s coolness!)

Sting - Bring on the Night (I can't believe it, but in the almost 20 years of this forum, I was maybe the 2nd or 3rd user to mention this album in a thread, according to research. Fantastic live double LP with a fantastic backing band)

Airplay - Airplay (glorious yacht rock from the early 80s. A must for any yacht fan! Much too unknown, with the gorgeously catchy single "Nothing You Can Do About It")

I guess DWTSMTB is rarely talked about; "relatively" rarely without question... I don't mean to be contradictory and maybe I think it's more discussed because I, like many of my "music minded" friends think it's an unequivocal masterpiece! I think so highly of the record that often while I'm at my record shelves unsure of what to choose, Down Where... ends up spinning. From the elegant poignant songwriting to all the players (Bill Frisell and Greg Lenz who share 2 beautiful LP closing tunes - It's a double LP) are individually gifted and when working together and off each other the results are magical. The production as well perfectly suits the material.

From the first haunting a cappella reading by Lucinda of her dad's, poet Miller Williams words from which the title of the record and the title track are taken to the final chords of the final track it's a beautiful, rugged, truth-filled... deep record. No matter how widely or not it's discussed it deserves more.
