Duly noted. Maybe Valentine is a better choice. Or the first Harvest album.

Of the albums I'm familiar with; I've got some listening to do... Gris Gris is the standout. Nice!

Mink DeVille (Willy and the boys) - Cabretta

    Produced by: Jack Nietzsche
    Recorded at: A&R Studios NYC
Mixed at: Capital Studios Los Angles

"DeVille's talents transcend all trends. A gifted performer and songwriter, he fuses blues, rock and Latino elements onto a solid R&B base, creating a sound that's both broadly evocative and distinctly his own. As a singer - particularly of the majestic soul ballads in which his subtle mastery is most apparent - he has few peers in the realm of white rock n' roll."

Kurt Loder - Rolloing Stone, 1980

On a personal note I was told By The Legendary (and I don't throw that term around) Doc Pomus that he believes Willy to be the greatest R&B - Rock and Roll singer around today.

Told to me 1981 at The Bottom Line NYC when I went over to pay my respects while he was holding court at his usual table.

Frankly whatever is deemed to be a classic by the poster. The interest in is the reasoning one believes something to be thought of as a classic. Although I wish there was a little more reasoning incorporated into the posts; all viewpoints are welcomed... and appreciated whether I personally agree or not. Educate me... Please. This thread kills Fascists.

An excellent list to be sure; all excellent many I would agree to be considered Classics; most notably among them: Running, Jumping, Standing Still - Third Down 110 to Go and Ahead Rings Out as well as Greetings from L.A. (maybe not a Classic in my opinion but excellent and indeed indispensable).

I'm not familiar with the album in it's entirety; but I would agree that Police & Thieves by Junior; the song is a Classic. The Clash also did a great cover version... as you probably know.

To me James Taylor's Sweet Baby James is a Classic in spite of the fact that personally it doesn't mean what it once did. Upon it's release in addition to other things it symbolized an idea of lifestyle both stylistically and musically that spoke to many searching for a direction.

One thing that denotes a Classic in my mind is the impact it had. A Classic remains a Classic whether it falls out of favor or not.

  14. Blue Rodeo - Five Days in July

This album went 6XPlatinum in Canada, but didn't receive much exposure elsewhere. Greg Keelor and Jim Cuddy are one of the best singer/songwriter duos in music. If you are at all a fan of the Country/Rock genre do yourself a favour and pick it up. It finally received the vinyl treatment by WEA Canada, so you have your choice of format.

    LOL, Funny! :)

Sorry if I was being nit-picky. I think of "classic" as something widely accepted as such, but obviously you are looking for albums folks here believe should, could or might be classics.

With that in mind, here are a few I would consider for that position:

    Sandy Bull: E Pluribus Unum
Carlos Santana/ Mahavishnu John McLaughlin: Love Devotion Surrender
    Dead Moon: In the Graveyard
Garry Numan + Tubeway Army: Replicas
    Suicide: self-titled
    Dinosaur Jr: Farm
    Brian Eno: Another Green World
    Mission of Burma: VS.
    The Replacements: Let it Be

Could be a few of those are already widely accepted as classics.

One of the best debuts ever, a definite classic in my mind. There was a lot of magic captured during those recordings by Jack and Willy.

One of my favorites that I've often mentioned around here is the great Sahara Blue by Hector Zazou from 1992, commemorating the 100 year anniversary of Arthur Rimbaud's passing with a sterling group of talent assembled for the project. Very unique album, and one that has elevated to classic status in my mind after countless listens over the last 25 years.

Spinning right now on the table is The Revolutionary Army of the Infant Jesus with The Gift Of Tears from 1987, and like Hector Zazou, not well known enough to seriously be considered a classic by most people, but it is for me, still sounds brilliant and original.

But isn't that one already seen as a classic by most music lovers that were around for the 90s? Seems pretty popular around here.
