Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols
Every couple of years I give it a try but nope, not yet.

Maybe it's the musician in me that rebels ...

Mothers of Invention - Freak Out

As a teenager flipping through my parents' records, it looked right up my alley. It was not. A few years ago, I saw it again at my mom's and brought it home. Yeah...I don't get it.

Not only have I given these albums second chances, I've bought them twice, decades apart. Third time would definitely not be a charm.

I thought from the OP's interesting first post that this was an invitation to highlight an album from a favourite artist whose albums you typically love but who have released one that you've tried but failed to connect with. Not "name a famous album by a famous artist and call it bad". If you're a genuine fan of Joni Mitchell you wouldn't pick Blue as a weak link. The same goes for London Calling, Band on the Run, Pet Sounds and the Velvet Underground & Nico (which is essentially The Best of VU & Nico!) . I get that some people don't like these albums but I don't get how people who really love those artists don't like those albums. There are some exceptions - for Piper at the Gates of Dawn I understand people who only like Dark Side of the Moon-ish Floyd could have trouble connecting with the band's sixties output. That would be like someone getting into Genesis from Abacab onwards picking up a copy of Selling England by the Pound and have trouble believing it's the same band.
Sorry for the rant. I don't expect this post to change the thread. Sgt Pepper can't be far away.

The white album. So much filler and dross. If it was recorded by any other band it would have sunk without a trace.

It finally clicked with me but only recently and I think ten was the magic number for me! I have had an awful lot of albums take 3 tries and I've read that elsewhere, so two might be giving up too soon.

I adore YES and love everything the various iterations of that band produced up to and including 'Big Generator'. Recently found a nice clean copy of 'Union', the lp where the different strands combined. Definately used to own it, maybe on cassette, though the memory is hazy. Stuck it on and remembered why a) said memory is hazy - absolutely nothing memorable happens at all, and b) i got rid of the cassette. Vowed there and then to never waste time listening to it again. Will hang onto the vinyl though, the Roger Dean cover art is lovely.

I definately think some jazz takes a while to click with me, and this album hasn't yet, its just a little to 'free'. Also Ornette Coleman - have tried a few times to 'get into' The Shape of Jazz To Come' - on paper its right up my street - but so far not for me.

Now that's one that's definitely worth several chances until it clicks with you.

As for Pitchfork, were they around in 73? I think not. Therefore, their opinion here is even more worthless than usual!
