Great opening track, 4WD (Low Ratio) is a fun track and the closer, And Further On, I always thought was very reassuring. Definitely not as lackluster as some people would have you believe. But it always had an odd place in the Tull cannon. I think the fact that Ian Anderson conceived and completed it as a solo album may have had something to do with it.

Is Marvin Gaye's Here My Dear considered one of his best?! I really love that one.

I really like this album, very listenable-- and a great sounding band.

Very, very slick sound on this record. Especially the track where Chris Thompson of Manfred Mann fame is on backing vocals. Also Cornelius Bumpus' pseudo-Latin piece is just phenomenal. A guilty pleasure.

Neither did I! I much prefer it to Kind Of Blue, which everyone seems to rave about.

Agreed. Completely forgot this. Used to listen to Tie You Up (Pain of Love), It Must Be Hell, All the Way Down quite often when I needed a Stones fix. Too Much Blood is a fun track too, though I imagine it must have created a stir among their fans back then.

Used to own a copy but barely got through it due to the lethargic, weak songs, bitter and cynical lyrics and wimpy production. Aside from that it's great ;). Glad someone likes it.

I think I prefer this to Minute By Minute, though they're both very good.

I would have thought it wasn't considered one of his best, but based on Allmusic's ratings it's his best after What's Going On and Let's Get It On (5 stars for those two, 4-1/2 for Here My Dear, 4 or less for the rest).

Minute by Minute side 1 is very good, but seems to wander off on side 2, though I dig the 2 closing tracks. I think some of that silly Pat Simmons cowboy doodling gets in the way again.

Hmm... I judge this thread by how the albums were received originally - as far as I can read myself to - and Here, My Dear puzzled most listeners on first release. As with many other albums I mentioned in my gargantuan rant it's one of those that bombed at first but got recognized much, much later. Lyrically it's very heavy and personal but musically it's just heaven. Marvin Gaye really knew how to put together a piece of art.

Black Sabbath -Eternal Idol I really don't understand the hate it gets. If another band had released this album I'm sure it would have been looked at differently.

Great choice. Like I've posted before, they were light on material but I think their "live in the studio" playing peaked during the DD period.

Yeah, it's very possible some revisionism went on there. I like it too, btw.

How does John Martyn's Grace and Danger hold up? It's another one of those very personal albums. I love the s... out of that record.
