I wish Alex the best. He really isn't young, though. I was thinking he'd be done with the show in a year or two anyway. He'd hit 80 and it would start to show.

As far as showbiz goes, the show will go on. It is a warhorse at this point. Carson retired and talk shows continued. Life goes on for all of us.

Not to belittle a sick man, one bit, but all these comments of him being “highly intelligent” are kind of . Maybe he is, in fact I’m sure he is, but it’s easy to come across as a know it all and smug when you have the answers right in front of you.

That said, be well, Mr. Trebek.

He's always been a total professional and pure class - exactly the right combination for this show. He knows the show and the contestants are the stars and he simply let's that happen while staying out of the way.

Just when I thought he couldn't get any cooler. I wonder what speakers those are (AR's?), and what's in that record collection.

Thank you. I knew he looked familiar, but just couldn't place my finger on who that was.

    TNM staging
For pancreatic cancer there are 5 stages in the TNM system – stage 0 followed by stages 1 to 4. Often the stages 1 to 4 are written as the Roman numerals I, II, III and IV. Generally, the higher the stage number, the more the cancer has spread. Talk to your doctor if you have questions about staging.

Stage 0 (or carcinoma in situ)
The cancer cells are found only in the lining of the pancreas.

    Stage 1
The tumour is 4 cm or smaller. For stage 1A, the tumour is 2 cm or smaller. For stage 1B, the tumour is larger than 2 cm but not larger than 4 cm.

    Stage 2
The tumour is larger than 4 cm (stage 2A). Or the tumour is any size and the cancer has spread to 1 to 3 nearby lymph nodes (stage 2B).

    Stage 3
The cancer has spread to 4 or more nearby lymph nodes. Or the tumour has grown into large blood vessels outside of the pancreas and the cancer may have spread to nearby lymph nodes.

    Stage 4
The cancer has spread to other parts of the body, such as the liver, lungs or abdominal cavity. This is also called metastatic pancreatic cancer.

    Recurrent pancreatic cancer
Recurrent pancreatic cancer means that the cancer has come back after it has been treated. If it comes back in the same place that the cancer first started, it’s called local recurrence. If it comes back in tissues or lymph nodes close to where it first started, it’s called regional recurrence. It can also recur in another part of the body. This is called distant metastasis or distant recurrence.

What's with the giant painting of himself?

And why is there a framed photo of Einstein on the floor? Did he swap Einstein for himself just to take this picture?

Actually, that's Mark Twain. You can barely make out the name on the framed picture on the left of the painting of him - Samuel "Mark Twain" Clemens.

I see a bunch of Emmys on the shelf behind him, and what looks like a Peabody award on the record shelf.

  18. The odds of going into remission is relatively low (something like 4%) if caught early enough (it’s usually caught at stage 4 as it is a disease like non small cell lung cancer) that usually presents signs when it has already spread) but it’s unusual for even that to occur.

He did win the George Foster Peabody award:

To clarify, the show won the award.

Seriously? Man, that’s ironic and a bummer.

Typically, I’m the type to always make jokes, but this is not the thread for that.
