True, but I like the song. Hopefully you won't hold it against me. :)

Some of the TV critics at the time of the revival were outraged that Art Fleming wasn’t asked back and took it out on Trebek (our local critic called him “turgid.”) It would have been considered uncool for Yankovic to use the new show for his video. Of course, now Alex’s version is considered the definitive version, but it wasn’t always so.

That is true-- the original on NBC w/the late Art Fleming (done from NYC) was a favorite of college students then (or people on their lunch breaks who wanted to improve their minds), IIRC.

    RIP Alex Trebek.

I am very grateful that my son and I flew to LA to view 5 live Jeopardy show tapings last October 2019.
My biggest takeaway that day was when Alex held his 15-20 minute Q&A with the audience between double and final Jeopardy segments for each single show taping.

During those segments, there were some borderline questions asked like what is your favorite karaoke bar song; favorite ice cream flavor; boxers/briefs; desert island, etc. the usual standards.
In no instance did Alex marginalize or respond in any sarcastic way to any of the audience members questions. Where there was opportunity for humor he pursued it and in all instances he handled his answers with class and grace and treated everyone with respect.
There was even a 15 year old boy who repeatedly asked questions like how do you become a Jeopardy champion and if he could get a job on the staff, etc. The boy had his hand up all day long and Alex kept going back to him throughout the day even though many of us started rolling our eyes after his 5th or 6th questions.

My son and I asked Alex 2 questions each and even got a thumbs up from him at one point. He truly was one of a kind.

I understand it was bound to happen, but sad nonetheless. What a calming, cool voice he had. Seemed like a great person, too.

He would seem to be the obvious pick and the reason why he was brought on board recently I think.

He did join the show in an on air role reading the clues.

I’ll be surprised if it’s Ken Jennings. They’re going to go with someone who has more broadcasting experience, IMO. Ken simply doesn’t have that screen presence.

Ryan Seacrest isn't doing anything in that particular half-hour...
