My only gripe is that the cover is a little flimsy and not a gatefold... the artwork looks a little fuzzy as well.

I agree on that, but for $25 I guess it's too much too ask.

It’s the best I’ve ever heard this album sound, but as others have noted, it wasn’t geared towards the boom-boom subwoofer crowd back in 1990. Rock was still king and if we could feel a nice kick drum come through the mix, that was enough bass.

It doesn’t sound thin at all. I think the growling guitar tone really sounds cool and comes through. Overall, nice, wide soundstage and the vinyl is quiet and flat. It would or have been nice to see it as a gatefold and while this release doesn’t provide any great sonic revelations, for $24 bucks this ain’t a bad deal.

i almost wonder if the cover was treated the same as when Kiss released Carnival of Souls on vinyl for the first time
and they just blew up the cover from a copy of the cd booklet and it looked similar to how this one looks.

Same with that Ozzy boxed set that came out recently. They're a lil' blurry... not blown-up CDs at least, but inferior scans of the prior vinyl pressings. Not so bad when you take a first glance but when you look at any older pressings the OGs are cleeearly better/sharper looking. BUT it's what's on the iiiiiiiiinside that counts :D
Honestly though, for barely over $20 for a perfectly pressed 2xLP I can't get mad at a little softness on some artwork

What was the DR on the original cd? Always sounded pretty good to me.

Answering my own question here. Looks like 10-11 DR for the original cd.

Album details - Dynamic Range Database

Of course DR is only one thing to consider.

Very cool! Mine got pushed back until tomorrow, and as luck has it, gotta take my turntable in for repair now tomorrow as well. So these quick reviews is all I'll have for now, until my turntable is back to me! Thanks everyone!

As for a quick review - nice remastering (based on digital version) as I personally hoped for. Though I was concerned Legacy would've go with generic re-release, but it was not the case :)

I suppose so because the album got reissued in hi-res as well with the same remastering.

I just grabbed one and listened to the first half.

Well done release, quiet vinyl and mostly flat, slight bump on the edge, but very minor.

Sounds good, but it does have that “clean” quality that would suggest it’s from a digital source.

  17. I 100% agree with Michael T. This is the best I have ever heard this album, both on headphones and through speakers. It sounds like it’s in my living room. It’s reminiscent of Ludwig’s legendary Led Zeppelin II. It absolutely rocks and is highly recommended!

  19. The LP’s hype sticker states it’s from “original remastered audio.”

It is a safe assumption that all remastered records are from a digitally stored file unless the reissue clearly proclaims that it is a AAA remaster. After all, that is a selling point.

As far as I know, Robert Ludwig’s Gateway Mastering works almost entirely in the digital realm these days. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t know what a great rock ‘n’ roll record should sound like. With Chris Bellman cutting a hot lacquer, it’s going to groove.

    Was the Brazilian a boot?

Either way I dont know if the new one will sound tons better, but I cant imagine it being at least somewhat different than the cd or the old lp.

Reviews are kind of all over the place it seems.

I think we all have been secretly listening to audiophile mofi lps and forgot how to adjust our ears to 90's rocking albums

Isn’t the phrase “original remastered audio” kind of an oxymoron?

Wasn’t aware that Ludwig was primarily digital these days, good to know.

I got the Brazilian boot white LP, hoping this will be better. Side note: the S/T Tripod Brazilian white LPsounds good.

What is the source of these boots? Just cd ripped to vinyl or did they get ahold of a safety tape?

I find it difficult to imagine a bootleg version from a questionable source is going to sound better? Correct me if Im wrong.

Cd ripped, but done just good enough for me to wait until the remastered official versions cut by CB to come around and not spend $250 on one. Hope that answers that.
