The last U2 album. A "Waiting For The Sun" shot by Henry Diltz overlooking the Pacific in Maui would have been better. Madonna's first 12" single is pathetic. A child put it together. Beatles Rock N Roll Music double caused Lennon to throw up. The Beatles For Sale EP cover in the black outfits would have been better or even better on Beatles VI but Capitol had no idea what to do with Beatles 45rpm sleeves or covers. Kiss' Asylum is up there, just horrid.

As @Mother from Melbourne points out, this is a serious jazz album, cover notwithstanding (I blame the 70s). Duane Allman plays on it.

Bonus: Herbie's 1966 album was called, and I am not making this up, Our Mann Flute.

Not going to post the rather nasty picture but has to be one of the worst covers:

I didn't like U2's Songs of Innocence. It looked like something that would turn a pedophile on. I don't know what the hell they were thinking. They used to be my favorite band.

Nothing wrong with not liking it. But it's a father and son.
I suspect it's a kind of retribution for the US freaking out over the original cover for Boy, which we in the US got in a lame cover compared to the more visceral original. Nothing erotic was intended, obviously. But (no offense to you) that's where the panicy phobic US was at the time. Violence is ok, but nudity is a no-no. Even innocent nudity.
    Sheesh.

    Cover Stories: U2, 'Boy'

And love to Larry and his son for making this profound, poetic, beautiful cover.
If only we all had fathers who were that cool and loving to express affection, disturbed people be damned. Enough with the former version of macho masculinity. Strong men love their sons with genuine healthy affection.

What a shame about this lazy ass album cover work. Honestly, what was Warner Bros. thinking? Didn't the debut album sell fairly well? Jeez. even going with something obvious would have been better than this ugly thing. How about a pic or painting of the band burning a pile of greenbacks. Or how about a painting of a partially ripped "million dollar reserve note" with the band's name and album title on it. Anything (er well, ALMOST anything) would have been better than this.

You know, I have to wonder about the discussion that took place when deciding upon the cover art for this album. Who thought that this was a good idea? Even by 70s standards this is in poor taste. Herbie could have been built like Arnold Schwarzenegger., and this still would have been so wrong.

The average buyer doesn't know it is Larry's son. How bout kneeling next to the downed Joshua Tree cover tree at sunset. Much better.

This is a great example especially since all the Blondie album covers up to that point are pretty great. This sticks out like a sore thumb. There is not one good thing about this cover.

I saw them at JFK in Philly open for Genesis in '82 on the Tracks Across America Hunter Tour. They were great...even Ms. Harry's cool colored hair underneath her regular color.
