Music that actually changes you, changes your life, forever, once you've heard it.
To have been such a big part of that, wow.
I've always taken pride in the fact that, if all the Allman-related recordings were removed from my collection, there would be a dramatic, visual difference.
Add to that, my adult son will likely keep most, if not all of it, after I'm gone.
He grew to be a fan as he grew up hearing them all, constantly.

" There were just enough people that got it, at the very beginning, to sustain the band. " - Phil Walden on camera.

Very sad news! I was fortunate to of had the pleasure of sitting next to Butch at an AB concert at the Beacon Theater NYC. Definitely an integral part of the AB overall band cohesion. RIP Butch you will be sadly missed!

  10. Who is saying it was suicide? I can't find anything on the web in the reports of his death.

I always felt a personal connection with the ABB due to Warren's Asheville connection. He brought them to the Jam several times, in addition to the times I saw them at various other venues in the Carolinas. Very sad news.

I've no doubt about it. I'm sure Lamar, Twiggs, Joe Dan, Red Dog, Mike (Callahan) and Allen Woody are right there, too.

God, I hope not. I'd heard on the radio a few months ago, after Gregg recovered from his latest health crisis that he'd been trying to get the Brothers back together for some dates.

Whew... this one takes the wind out of me.
What a primo drummer, will always remember the early 70's shows.
When I was working around the Palm Beach area some 25 years ago, I had a friend who delivered pizza to the home a few times. Extremely sad news.

RIP. Very sad to hear - I'm jam buddies with two of the guys in Butch's latest band The Fright Train Band, so not only the loss of a great player and legend but also a bandleader, friend and employer to those guys. I know they've both had a blast playing with him and getting to know him - I've enjoyed hearing stories secondhand
