I've enjoyed making Monkees Fantasy albums from their "solo" years. I mean c'mon, most of the Monkees albums are just solo recordings put together as a "Monkees album".

With the recent release release of Micky's solo MGM singles, it's time for a '71 - '74ish "Monkees album".

    songs in contention:

    Rainy Jane - Davy
Man We Was Lonely - Davy
    I'll Believe You - Davy
    Girl - Davy
    Look At Me - Davy
Some Of Shelly's Blues - Mike
    Harmony Constant - Mike
Roll With The Flow - Mike
    Release - Mike
    Tomorrow & Me - Mike
    Mama Rocker - Mike
(I don't want to touch the 1st Ntl Band albums since they are so good on their own)
    Daybreak - Micky
    Easy On You - Micky
    Oh Someone - Micky
Unattended In The Dungeon - Micky
It's Amazing To Me - Micky
    Love War - Micky

I know of nothing Peter released during this period. I guess his assistance on a couple Micky songs will have to suffice.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I think the late 70s album will be easy to put together (and better).

Are there any photos of more than two Monkees together in the 70s? I think I recall an obscure one with Micky/Day/Peter.

    I'm loving the single sleeves.
Is there a website you have these on?
If there was, I seem to have misplaced the link.
    You do great work.

I don't have the tracklistings at hand, but I had fun making a 'band' version of the debut album, consisting primarily of the Nesmith sessions (plus both sides of the debut single), which is about ten times better than the album they released, and, since I've always thought that The Birds, The Bees and The Monkees was their 'White Album' (due to its 'four solo artists releasing material as a band' nature and the sheer expansiveness of those sessions), I put together a double album of material from those sessions based on the template of the 'White Album'. I worked through track for track, trying to find the closest Monkees' equivalent to 'Piggies', 'Helter Skelter', 'Cry Baby Cry' etc. Sometimes it was a musical similarity, or a similar production / arrangement approach, sometimes it was just some lyrical or title idea in common. It was a lot of fun to puzzle out (I also drew on a couple of early sessions for Head which took place within the same time frame, as I recall) and didn't sound too bad upon completion.

I just re-read most of this thread and you guys have come up with some very interesting alternative albums and fantasy albums and singles!

Michelle, I love the artwork you've come up with! It looks wonderful! Outstanding work! :righton:

If you guys were in charge of Monkees releases, my wallet would be a whole lot thinner. :)

Wow! For some dumb reason, the forum's server never told me that there were any new posts at all last year. But now I come back and there's actually been a ton of great posts!

Thanks for sharing your amazing work with us, as always, Michelle66!

    Well, it's done!

After eight (!) years, I've finally finished eveything!

The final task was to write the set's liner notes and design a storage box for the whole collection. And those were completed this past weekend.

Anyway, here it is. (Now to go find another way to waste massive amounts of time...)

This is the outer box (showing the inner box turned around to hide the contents):

You're an inspiration Michelle. I've continued the concept and made Monkees albums for the 70s/80s/90s/00s. What I lack is decent looking covers. (not-so-subtle hint)

I think you made one for "Poop It" that was hilarious with only one small (but significant) change to the Pool It cover.

Michelle - It's just too bad this wasn't made available rather than the Rhino box set that just was released (failed idea) and cereal box records (awful idea).
