On YouTube, someone posted what appears to be a non-theatrical B/W one reel cutdown from VOGUES OF 1938(Walter Wanger, Technicolor, starring Joan Bennett)highlighting the "Turn on that Red Hot Heat" Cotton Club number. Now, the end of the number as seen in this cutdown differs markedly from what is seen in the most recent color video release of the film. In the color version, the last part of the number is seen in long shot, but in this B/W reel, it's shot very close up. and it's kind of steamy for the late 30s! What I found out was that the South threw a fit about the number, so presumably it was reshot. But I think that the B/W TV print I saw in the 70s had the "Steamy version", and the last 12 seconds of it are so are seen on a prison TV in Wanger's I WANT TO LIVE. Any one have an "Alternate Prints" backstory?
