Pretty much sums it up for me.

I'm curious who made the 25,000,000th post though. Let's hope it was one of the meaningful posts!

    That's great. Congratulations! :0)

The answer to your 2nd question was that a lot more people than just the Scots/Irish & me & a few family members love Scots/Irish music & the sound of bagpipes, that bagpipes aren't just from all over Britain but other countries have bagpipes too & that it's not just me & family members that adore love songs. The best fun I had was finding this out & just mixing & mingling with friendly, pleasant, helpful & interesting people maybe having a laugh & joke too.

Aww! That's great. From what I've seen he's a very skilled guy. :0)

"He was good"?? He was brilliant!!

I did post on a thread, but you don't get much response to Al Jolson posts these days. Lol. It can get a bit lonely....

Glad to see Sepia Records at least acknowledging his brilliance with a couple of decent releases these past couple of years.

I haven't seen that 1. We had weekly sing-alongs & dances at Grandmas, my Aunts & Uncles houses when I was younger & sung all the old songs including some Al Jolson. As someone who works in the arts/crafts, history & music side of heritage preservation I plan & vocally conduct 1920's & 1940's sing-alongs I have to research & listen to songs from those eras before deciding what I'm going to include & miss out, what the words are so I can print out song-words before listening again while singing along to ensure I get everything 100% accurate & authentic. I go to my gramophone & play gramophone records 1st, then I go to vinyl, then cassette, CD then if necessary youtube. Authenticity is very important down to the costume, make-up & hair-style. It's harder for me on 1920's days as if I sing jazz I'd have to have a flapper-girl hair-style which I don't want to do as short hair doesn't suit me so I try to miss jazz out. I know that makes it less authentic though. Lol.

That's great. I've got a few of his gramophone records, some of his songs on LP & his film "The Jazz Singer".

as a relative newbie who has only been here seven years, my biggest discovery was a place online where people talked about music I like (new and very old) without (mostly) the usual internet backstabbing nonsense.

The most fun was finding and then reading from the start the bobby whitlock threads/posts, which I still think is one of the best and most original things I have ever come across online, genuine interaction and eye-opening honesty.

Tips on great purchases such as the recent £20 six record Jazz offer are the icing on the cake, and that's without even delving much into the other different forums, where once or twice I've asked for some 'real life' info and got some great advice.

it's one of the very, very few websites I visit everyday. My thanks to all who make it what it is and long may it continue!

    Here since July 8th, 2003..

This is where I figured out that my hi-fi wasn't always to blame.

I would hear an LP on someone else's system and be blown away and go home dissatisfied because it didn't sound as good on mine. This forum helped me figure out why. That LP was Deep Purple's Machine Head, the original UK pressing sounded so much better than any other one I had heard.

So I concentrated on figuring out the best pressings (mastering) and less on constantly upgrading the hi-fi system.

Also got to know some great people via PM's. I would buy a UK pressing a member wanted and send it to the US and in return they would buy a US pressing I wanted and send it to me, no money exchanged.

Of course over the last couple of years it stopped because secondhand vinyl prices and postage went through the roof. Sadly!

I will never forget the great advice I got from a member in 2006 who I PM'd about my first trip to Los Angeles and the great tips he gave on where to stay, driving an automatic vehicle for the first time on the 'wrong side of the road (as we say over here). BUT most importantly advice on record stores in LA. Sadly we never got to meet.

My favourite memory of SHF has been the Prince RIP thread. There are a lot of RIP threads here, but that one was something special. It really became its own community, filled with people who were mourning and processing, but were just very supportive and filled with bittersweet admiration at an artist's legacy.

A simple web search for info on a Rush CD in 2014 led to a wonderful rabbit hole I've never come out of. Love the forum and all you crazy old (and young) coots!

I do however think it's contributed to some fiscal delinquency (at least in the eyes of my wife). :D

My finest memory, and, most likely the reason I'm always here, was when I brought up the smell of WEA cassettes from the '80's, and some here KNEW what I was talking about!
There are subjects here you just CAN'T talk to 'nomrmies-from-the-real-world' about!

Oops! I've shared a couple of songs on here but didn't share 1 appropriate to the thread title. I should really have used this on my original post on here instead of just saying "Congratulations!" along with everything else I said. Sorry! Here it is:-

I think I joined in 2004 (don’t know how to check) but either way, I love this place. It’s like hanging out at the Cheers bar but rather than focusing on Sam’s love life, we all talk about music with intense passion.

My favourite time here, for certain, was the build up, for years, of the Beatles remasters. I remember the announcement day was incredible here (I think April 09). Release day, once again.

I have so many favourite posters, most of whom are ever-present in the Beatles threads but I always love how you can spot an @Arnold Grove post even before you’ve seen who has posted it :D

Thanks to all for keeping this place afloat!

    Ahh!! Congrats to all.
    2002 eh?
    Where was I then....
Oh, that's right, trying to get famous by pickin' and singin'........... I was never home,
and I never got big and famous.... just big.
Also being in Australia, we were probably still on 'dial up'.
    I don't miss them days.
    Fondest memories? Amazing discovery?
Awww, to be quite honest, having someone to talk to when I've been going through some hard times.
I've had, and continue to have some great PM's with people over the years.
The music/movies/gear stuff is all great too, but it's even better when you feel....'well'.

It's the only forum I love.

The only reason I join this form is because I was searching for the name of a song that i heard as a child that for years I’ve been wondering about… Lo and behold within a couple days I found out what the song was… Ever since then six years later still checking the forum every day
