Here is the lower right corner at the bottom of the box, the product is visible inside unprotected.

Here is the lower left corner with some pressure applied on the top of the box as it probably had something heavy put on top.

Ironically, the upper left corner, protected with paper, had the least damage. However box set 11 and 12 were completely free to slop around in the vacant space and damage corners.

Finally, the box was punctured on the right side towards the bottom.

Here is the front cover of Bootleg 10, damage caused by the puncture, cover totally gouged out.

    Unbelievable!!

Man, that sucks! For once, amazon uses a box but fails place the contents inside to protect from corner bumps.

By the way, I order my supplements from them and when they ship me glass bottles of vitamins they pack them so well you could drive a car over the box and the bottles would be fine. So they know how to pack correctly, they just seem to value a $9 bottle of vitamin C over a $120 box set. Boggles the mind.

Hopefully documenting something like this with photos may push a change in amazon's shipping logistics, wishful thinking on my part.

    Perhaps if we all:
    1. post about our negative shipping experiences with photos to document amazon's ill choices
    2. return all damaged goods back to amazon
    3. boast about competitors' superior shipping methods and share who they are even though they may charge a bit more

    we can force some change.

Nothing is more powerful than the human collective.

Right now I would be willing to pay a bit more to a competitor knowing they will take proper care of shipping product and show respect to their customers' product.

Taking the time to deal with amazon's poor logistic choices geared only for profit and having to waste my time boxing, printing labels, taking product to the post office, in the hopes of getting a replacement shipped with more care seems to be a win/lose relationship where amazon is pushing for the win and customers are forced to lose. Amazon is essentially saying "We don't give a f*** about our customers". My wasted time and hassle is not worth the price saving.

As for the glass bottles of vitamins being packed so well, if one had to fathom a guess, the liability for a customer getting cut on broken glass is motivation for that.

One layer of large bubble wrap around each box set would have likely prevented much of the damage.

As the pictures show, the replacement Dylan Box Sets were shipped just in a plastic bag. Although one of the sets was put in a bubble wrap sleeve, no surprise as it was still damaged.

What's amazing is this is the service one receives from amazon after a complaint is made!

I just received a record with no packing. They stuck the shipping label to the record. WTF! Not buying music from Amazon anymore.

So amazon.ca had a good deal on Tom Petty's Wildflowers and all the rest Super Deluxe Box Set (5CD). I could not resist and decided to order even though I have had items shipped in subpar packaging in the past which arrived damaged and had to be returned.

Well the original order was sent to me in a prime bubble wrap bag.

I call and complain about the item, how it was shipped and that it was damaged. I'm told that amazon cares about their customers and they ensure me the replacement will be sent in proper packaging.

First replacement is sent in a paper amazon bag with those thin foam type pads in between the layers.

I call and complain about the item, how it was shipped and that it was damaged. They again tell me that amazon cares about their customers and they again ensure me the replacement will be shipped in proper packaging. I tell them I would be surprised if that indeed happens.

Second replacement is sent in same type of paper amazon bag!!

So now I'm sending back the second replacement and left with no box set to have and enjoy!

Orders placed with other online sites such as Universal Music, Mobile Fidelity, Rush Backstage, TheHip.com, Guns N' Roses merch store, Neil Young store, etc... all shipped properly packed and arrived pristine.

Amazon has been really dropping the ball for a few years now IME, since about mid 2016!

It amazes me that this keeps happening and wonder if others are still experiencing the same?

In my work, I help adolescents find jobs. Two of them found jobs with amazon in the last two years. Each was fired soon after for their first (minor) offense. It seems that amazon's policy is to just throw it away and try again, regardless if they are talking about employees or their product. I remain a sometimes customer, but I don't recommend that anyone work there anymore.

Not to mention how inconsistent and illogical they are. When I order a $150 Bob Dylan box set, they send it in a thin paper padded mailer. When I order a $10 vitamin supplement, they wrap it in that same padded mailer and then put it inside a box, which is then shipped inside another box with air cushions inside.

George, the 2 adolescents getting fired for a first minor offense is rather disheartening, and another stain on amazon.

We've all read the stories of how warehouse employees are overworked and not even allowed to take washroom breaks.

So there is a price to wanting to pay less and supporting amazon.

The sweatshops have come to first world countries in a sense.

Is there a possibility that these Amazon packaging blunders are USA based? I purchased a bottle of hair conditioner and it arrived in a much larger than actually required very solid cardboard box with plastic air pillows surrounding it. This has been a constant for anything I've purchased up here in the GWN for a few years now. Maybe I need to try media to get that kind of lousy packaging, I dunno.

Dave, I have experience poor packaging and damaged good from amazon Canada, UK, and Germany, have not ordered from amazon US for some time. In the odd case I mix media for amazon.ca, like a non music item with some CDs, the packaging is always fine and things come thru undamaged. Hit and miss I guess.

Remember Amazon's slogan Little Box Big Smile? Everything shipped in a box shrunkwrapped to a piece of cardboard. Ah, those were the days. Good times.

What I find really annoying is to have an item arrive damaged when it was shipped in a plastic envelope that brags about being lighter than their lightest cardboard box. Like I care.
