I did wonder why I left a copy in the bins. It turned out that I didn't. Demon version. I did leave Julian Cope's World Shut Your Mouth and Mercury Rev's Yerself I Steam though.
No dedicated ME threads anymore, so...... His best albums: 60w Silver Lining Invisible Man Don't Be a Stranger Hey Mr. Ferryman Agree or disagree?
'Hey, Mr Ferryman' was the first Mark Eitzel solo album I purchased after discovering American Music Club. Saw Mark Eitzel live twice after that in support of the album. Live that album to bits, it's very very good, and consistent. Would be great if he worked on another album with Bernard Butler. Was a good combination. Really need to explore more in depth with his other solo work.
He's done quite a lot, but it's all over the place as far as quality, and some of it is self-released and hard to obtain.
I love AMC and Mark Eitzel. I once saw him in a club with 3 other audience members, just a few years ago. Great music is not supported.
I'll have to revisit that one. I recall someone saying that record was a real rush job though. Or, he simply ran out of money and had to put it out unfinished, so to speak. Listened to both West and Candyass today. Both left me cold.
It’s part of the charm of Trap for me. Very bare bones, but great songs! Steve Shelley, James McNew & Kid Congo Powers play on some of the tracks too.
I love AMC / Eitzel. One of my great regrets is finding United Kingdom on CD back in the 90s but being about a pound short of the cash to pay for it. I must admit I haven't kept up with all of his solo albums but I quite enjoyed Hey Mr. Ferryman. This is perhaps my favourite AMC song:
Hoping to give this a listen tomorrow. Have you ever heard Superhits International, one of his gig-only cd's? Mark Eitzel - Eitzel Superhits International
I got a copy of this for a $1.18 on SecondSpin today, so I'm curious to hear it......turns out it wasn't on Spotify and youtube had very little of it. I figured for that price there's no chance of buyers remorse.
Mark seems to have deleted his Twitter. Good for him! I still want to know what he thinks though. Hey Mark, come to Hoffman Forums.
I enjoyed checking out his account from time to time...but if there is any band/artist that is the antithesis to social media culture its AMC/Eitzel. Being a parent of teens I can say that this social media culture is sending us in the wrong direction. I despise it.
Is he just on Fakebook these days? If so that's a shame. Surely someone here can convince him to join this thread? That would be delightful.
I saw Mark Eitzel do a solo show at a Matador showcase at SXSW in ether 2000 or 2001, which I enjoyed, but I have never really dived back int the AMC albums. Would be interested in circling back around to check them out at some point.
