He did, but I tend to think that most of his best songs were the darker ones, like "Prisoners" and "All of my Memories". His more saccharine material lost its appeal to me a long, long time ago.
I've got all 26 volumes. They are pricey but I shopped Amazon Sellers diligently and found decent prices. I've also got their entire 'Blowin' the Fuse' R&B series. One question: How does Bear Family squeeze more than 80 minutes of music on one CD?
Love Trooper. He's written some of my favorite songs, with "Muhammad Ali" and "They Call Me Hank" being two of them.
Gillian Welch Ryan Adams. - whiskytown Uncle Tupelo - Son Volt Wilco Buddy Miller Townes Van Zandt Lucind Williams Doc Watson Tony Rice Steve Earle Dwight Yokam Merle Haggard I know he is country but what is more Americana than Merle's tribute to Bob Wills? Plus Merle with the Strangers...
I liked your post based on that avatar alone! Oh, and another New Yorker here with his heart in the south.
At the risk of being utterly predictable, I'll mention the Lovin' Spoonful. The jug band covers/adaptations on Do You Believe in Magic album & the songs on Hums (check out the chapter on Hums http://www.amazon.com/Sing-My-Way-Home-American-ebook/dp/B001MYLM82/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1435225696&sr=1-8&keywords=sing me back home).
Love the Black Lillies, their former drummer is a friend of mine, Jamie Cook. He is also an ardent audiophile. We listen to each others systems every chance we get. I know Jamie Cook by way of michael22, a member of this forum.
I’m not really into the genre but I got into The White Buffalo from Sons of Anarchy and I guess he’s considered Americana. Maybe I am into the genre and just need to check some of these out.
This is where many of us were at a few years ago, making the decision to attend a few live shows from artists i'd heard on NPR is what did the trick for me. It opened up a whole new world of music i might otherwise not have discovered, many of these artists are better appreciated live.
Randy: That's a mighty fine photo in your profile. Great album. I know you from Amazon forums. Thanks again for brining up Rod Picott the other night.
