+1 two overated ice cream parlors in the town that time forgot. Just what Berkeley needed.

We had books, and a proper intelligent book curator, before I 'left' in 2010. I wish them the best, but if they don't have coffee and free wi-fi, as well as proper vinyl playing all day (I used to rip whole sides and pop them in the CD changer when I was there) it's a badly missed opportunity to make a good experience. For example, check out the wildly resurgent Rough Trade stores.

For a while, on the main floor in a line of several cases parallel to the mail cashier counter. Also, music themed books made it into the basement a few times.

Last I talked to the book guy, he said it was all moving to Mad Monk.

Funny, I totally don't remember seeing books in Rasputin at all! I spent the vast majority of time in the basement with the LPs, but still, I don't recall ever seeing any there either. But at Mad Monk, the books are hard to miss.
