imagine a big old bassy juke box (at least they were in the bars of my youth) playing in another room with the door closed ! not quite but that is the idea.
I had a friend once who grew up in a situation where a juke box was the family's main source of music (they ran a restaurant with a cocktail lounge, and lived next door.) So when he moved out on his own, he eventually put a hifi system together with a pair of big, squat old-school speakers (Bozak, Rectilinear or something?) and set up to sound like ... a big old jukebox.
Yes, I with you on this ...the only NHT that I'd personally give a chance to is the T6 and the XD. I've heard the others extensively in Virginia at Digital Sound and another audio store back in the 90's - it was the brightness that turned me off. Dont' get me wrong, NHT speakers are well built and nice....but Andrew has designed some knockout speakers as well.....not only do they sound good, they also measure well. I'm still running Infinity P-FR's designed by Laurie Fincham and Andrew Jones (who told me that was one of the most fun speakers that he'd ever designed).
They don't really have a speaker line do they? Maybe that is about to change. I think it would be sorta interesting to give the guy a blank slate. So many of his previous positions were at established loudspeaker outfits with a sort of style or approach or at least an aesthetic that he needed to at least somewhat accommodate. I'd like to see something purely Andrew Jones.
My guess is the speakers will be made by an established third party manufacturer with AJ directing the design.
Just a guess, but considering the MOFI edition Falcons were around $2K, I'd guess around that price point give or take. Just a guess of course.
They make a couple of turntables and 'hifi' recordings...that's it...I doubt they have any type of existing requisite infrastructure/resources to engineer a badass speaker...He should have gone to Yamaha dammnit!
That's perhaps exactly why they hired an experienced leader in loudspeaker research, development, and production. He is knowledgeable to be able to guide them to create what's needed to support his/their vision. I'm looking forward to seeing how this "Mofi Electronics" page changes in the months and years ahead. MoFi’s TT carts are priced thusly: $200, $500, $800 & $1500. Going by that, my wild guess is that speaker pairs will start at $500 and go up to $5000. I hope we get some AJ interviews soon so we can get more info straight from the horses mouth.
From the sound of this, it seems that's what you're going to get! And Cheap Audio Man gets the scoop!
They make phono cartridges and phono preamplifiers as well. I wouldn't knock them for trying to get started.
