I heard it over a store PA - it's from the late 50's or very early 60's (I know this because that's all they play on their sound system)

It's a mellow, yet bouncy kind of pop song - something that would fit in nicely on Malt Shop Memories (but isn't)

The song has a male lead vocal, with a female backing. It's almost like a call-and-response - the male sings a line and the females sings "ahhhhhh" in a decending line.

Not much else except I know i've heard it before but can't place it

    Name that tune!

Perhaps if we had a little more than a declining "ahhhhhh" to work with. Can you recall any other line?

Nope - it was just something playing over the store radio and the "ahhhhh" caught my ear. I'm sure it was a hit of sorts as nearly everything else they play was a hit. It sounds familiar to me but I can't place it.

I know it's a long shot, but I figure this is the place to ask!

    Long shot:

"Tragedy"? Either the original by Thomas Wayne or the cover by The Fleetwoods?

"When evening sun...." (Ahhh ahhh) etc.......

Thanks - Good guess, but that's not it. The song I'm thinking of is a little faster. It's a soft sounding song from the same era, though with a little more bounce to it than "Tragedy". "Tragedy" is a good song though, never heard it until now, so thanks!

My guess is that it's that early Ike & Tina Turner song, the title of which escapes me. Ike asks a question and Tina responds before they break into the chorus. It's on most of their hits compilations, though.

I'm glad you found the tune you were looking for! Today it occurred to me that "Johnny Remember Me" by John Leyton might have been the one, but that was primarily a British hit.

Thanks for the sample. I think the Crescendos version wins the battle on that one...
