I have my Dad’s Shure rest record from the 60’s. There is a ungrooved section on side 2. This section is just about midway between spindle and edge of record. Instructor tells you to place needle in middle of band, and set anti-skate until the cartridge just rides in the middle of band without moving inside or outside. I did this on my Pioneer PL112D with AT VM95ML cartridge. Sounds good to me. What do you guys think? Is a modern method better?

So what are the VTF and anti-skating settings that resulted from using this method?

    VTF is 1.8. Anti-skate is a hair over 2.

Choose a record you know the spindle is perfectly in middle....while it’s playing watch the cart, if it sways back and forth you are off...if it’s steady, enjoy the music...
