LOVE & EVOL is great. Reminds me a lot of the Solomon albums, mixed with Dear and the New Noise Literacy trilogy. The first song is different from the rest, though... more in line with Präparat. It's an early favourite for me along with EVOL.
Am I glad I seen this thread. I bought the deluxe edition of Pink and had the same “crackle” through “My Machine” as was posted here. Ended up buying two copies and both were like it. Wondering if anyone is having an issue with the “Dear” vinyl? I am having the same type of “crackle and static” through the song “Beyond”.can anyone confirm or deny their copy sounds the same?
I got the CD version of Love & Evol today. It’s nicely done, with a slipcase in keeping with the sleeve theme but in purple instead of orange or blue. The album can be streamed via their bandcamp page. I read some review recently saying it’s their best of the last decade. Actually considering in depth their last decade or so, they’ve had lots of very strong releases. As with all of their albums it’s going to take me a while before I can decide how it fits into the bigger picture. I’m just so happy to have another complete album by them right now. I saw them live when they first toured the UK . Bought a couple of LPs - one being a tour-only release. But quickly decided i didn't like them enough to continue. So, that's two Borises I don't like .
This Boris is about 4-5 Borises in one. If you gave all the styles (at the time) a fair chance, then let's shake hands and part ways. But the variety on offer is truly wild and unlike most artists - I really think there is a Boris album for everyone. Perhaps there are some that would be more up your alley than what you bought / they toured on at the time.
Perhaps you could list their styles, please? And yes as observed above, I meant Boris Johnson as the second Boris I don't like.
I’d never heard of this band, but if they ever tour in the Divided Kingdom again, they’d be well advised to do so with a heavy disclaimer.
I like Boris Becker but it appears it's not advisable to enter a broom cupboard with him. (Boom Boom!)
I saw Consequence of Sound saying it was their best release of the decade, but I disagree. Dear, Noise and Praparat were all better albums.
Not sure about the pressings but if you’re asking about the albums themselves, yes. These are two incredible albums.
I just put on my copy of feedbacker and noticed some whooshing sound at the very beginning of side A. Any one else’s copy have it? I had to send the first copy back due to a nasty warp.
Finally received my copies. Akuma No Uta was fine and worth getting (for me). Feedbacker was scratched (and I mean literally - scratched), I sent it back - I also think that album really do not benefit from the vinyl format either.
I didn't comment on "the other Boris" for that reason Styles and examples: Drone / sludge metal (Absolutego, Dear) Post-rock (Flood, Feedbacker) Stoner metal (Akuma no Uta, Heavy Rocks 2002) Psychedelic rock (Rainbow, BXI) Ambient (Sound Track From Film 'Mabuta no Ura') Crust punk (VEIN disc 1) Electronic (Smile JP version) Indie rock w/female vocals (Attention Please) J-pop (New Album) Noise (Asia, Warpath) Most of their other albums, including some of their highest-acclaimed like Pink, combine multiple styles, as do some of the listed examples. Boris doesn't stay in one place for too long.
Thank-you taking the trouble to list their styles. It looks very diverse. Perhaps you could publish it one day, as 'A Complete Guide to the Workings of Boris (The Group)'.
I have to agree. I don’t know if sloppy is the right word but I don’t think there was much care given to these represses. The vinyl has what looks like paper scuffs all over and they have some slight warping. I’m debating sending Feedbacker back again due to the whooshing sound at the beginning of the first side but I’m thinking that the next one to arrive will be similar.
