Just got the "Essential Journey". Better than the greatest hits CD. They went overboard on songs Escape and Trial of Fire. Anyone else have any opinions on this collection? :)

How is it better than Greatest Hits? I have most of their work on vinyl, and Greatest Hits on CD.

How's the vinyl? I know every copy of any Journey album I've heard is either eq'ed (the first releases) or no-noised (re-mastered) to death on cd. [IMG] I haven't heard the Sony Mastersound version of Infinity yet though. Any opinions?

I find the cds I've heard do absolutely no justice to an other-wise classic rock band [IMG]

I meant it's better than the greatest hits CD in that they had too many good songs to fit on one disc. By the way Steve H, ever think of mastering anyJourney CD's?

Infinity and Evolution are still bonifide classics IMO.

I bought it too. I was curious...with the room of two CDs why Walks Like A Lady (a top 40 hit) was still missing.

I wonder why. Is it because of the genre? A Hoffman remaster could have really brought the vocals and guitar to life, I think.

I would also add Frontiers and Escape as favorites.

    Steve,
Could you elaborate on the masters sounding "average". You mean the way the music was mixed, they sound like 3rd generation copies because of the handling of the master or the brand of tape that didn't hold up over the years? Anything Sound Surgeon Dr. Steven Hoffman wouldn't be able to repair?
