Captain Bacardi is frequently the soundtrack to my life (i.e. playing on loop in the two-track in my head).

"Wave", "Tide", and "Stone Flower" are always in rotation! Happy to take suggestions for other Jobim LPs. Also, I still need to check out the complete Sinatra-Jobim Reprise recordings.

Yet, he doesn't seem to get enough press nowadays, at least around here.

Lots of competition from the Beatles, I suppose. ;)

He is truly a legend. One of the best composers in all of popular music, ever.

Stone Flower. Possibly the only hip record in parents' collection. I wore out that vinyl after discovering it buried on their shelves c. 1983 - finding the groove and arrangements irresistible and kind of 70s airport lounge whimsical - and have since owned several CD incarnations. Still play it often and have gone on to explore lots of Jobims other work.

And don't forget Vinicius de Moraes who wrote lyrics for some of Jobim's greatest songs, like Hal David did for Bacharach. "Garota de Ipamena," (Girl From Ipanema) is the most well known, inspired by a schoolgirl who often passed by the cafe Vinicius and Jobim would frequent. They also wrote the entire 1958 album by Elizete Cardoso that is considered the first bossa nova record.

Picked up the Sinatra in nice shape at Rasputin Records a few weeks ago. I'm enjoying it.

Both of the Sinatra records are terrific, that is, the one and half: 1967's Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim , plus side one of 1971's Sinatra and Company.

Both of those have been replaced by this, which adds some previously unreleased tracks. I HIGHLY recommend it:

To be honest, I've been meaning to explore him beyond Frank for years, and have never gotten around to it. Thanks for the suggestions pointing me in the right direction from here!
