Actually, my favorite Jobim album is Morelenbaum2-Sakamoto's "Casa", recorded at his house. That wasn't merely a sentimental gesture: a graceful poignancy imbues all the songs, the sense of 'saudade'. One of those album that just gets better and deeper the more you listen to it. Includes a few previously unrecorded compositions.

Tom and Vinicius would get arrested if they wrote that song today. At least PC would make them have to abandon music.

I’ve fallen in love with this record recently. Some fantastic instrumental orchestral work on it.

I used to have a noisy 1967 Spanish pressing with the red cover. Now I have a 1977 Spanish pressing with the green cover

PT: During a meeting Creed said he was finishing an album with Antonio Carlos Jobim called Wave. I had no idea what the music sounded like, which was the case[IMG] almost all the time. They’d always be recording or mixing the album when the cover was being created. For Wave, Creed asked me to bring in images that I thought would work. But he added, “I don’t want a Japanese wave. I want something different.” So when I got home, I went into my files and pulled a shot from my library of the red giraffe.

JW: When did you take that photo?
PT: In 1964, during a photo shoot in Africa for Esso.
    .......
    ...........

JW: How’d you capture the red and purple colors?
PT: That’s a whole optical thing using special filters and [IMG]machinery. Actually, the album with the green cover was a mistake. They switched the plates by mistake. But I kind of like that one, too.

Mal, that is my third favorite album from Tom and I actually own it on BOTH CD and vinyl! My number 1 favorite album is the sublime "Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim", followed by the essential "Terra Brasilis", from 1980.

Didn’t see anyone mention the movie Black Orpheus yet
One of the greatest movies ever and an amazing soundtrack! I believe Jobim wrote about 70% of the music

Just try to get this song out of your head :)!

The Black Orpheus soundtrack is one of my desert island discs. One of the standouts on the disc, though, was written by Luiz Bonfa: Manha do Carnaval.

I believe that Bonfa wrote all the hit songs from Orpheus, including the one I just posted. Found this out from the YouTube comments

Me too with Captain Bacardi. Although I’m often tied into the entire Latin kaleidoscope album by the Clark Boland Big Band. Truly the soundtrack of our lives! I’ve been on a serious Jobim bender for a couple of months straight.

Sure! Bossa Nova was an appealing sound in my early adolescence; I wasn't "in at the creation," which was from about 1957 on, but ACJ was very important in the later period of the genre, which was when it caught my ear.

I just picked up the 4cd set Stan Getz The Girl From Ipanema in the classifieds for $6. Possibly the best purchase I’ve made in years. Sound quality is stunning and the material is beyond amazing!
