I like YSS even though the noise reduction used was totally unnecessary.

A shame that the CD of the 1999 YSS is too digitally compressed as I like some of the remixes.

That's been my impression as well. The earlier Yellow Sub Songtrack was most excellent - I was generally not as thrilled with the Sgt Pepper 50th remix. I haven't given it a proper blindfold A/B'ing corresponding tracks between the two releases. I can see now that's in my near future.

It's the Songtrack, with the yellow submarine against a blue background.

Yes, back when the people that Apple hired actually knew how to do remixes that sounded decent, barring Eleanor Rigby.

Then nepotism took hold and everything went to hell sound wise. :thumbsdow

If I might ask a Gort to rename the thread, replacing "Soundtrack" with "Songtrack", please?

    Apologies for any confusion.

  11. I really like it,the CD that is. When I want to hear the 4 unique Beatles songs from the soundtrack, this is usually what I listen to, not the original album. I also like the remixes which were an improvement over the 1987 CDs.

"Pepper 50 has an insane amount of bass that arguably defines the mix itself, almost hip hop-esque in intensity."
I don't know about insane, but I agree with this in general. My initial reaction was thank god they finally did this remix though.
I love the YSS though... and that stereo remix stuff on the EP box set. I'll have a go tonight comparing them...

I've heard these comments before, but they mystify me. OK I'm getting on a bit, my ears may be not so acute these days, but I can't for the life of me hear significant noise reduction/compression. I don't doubt it was done, but I just can't hear it :(

Yeah the Eleanor rigby mix stands out.
The strings at the start are fantastic. I would go as far as say it changed my view of the song.

 Just a wee bit over-dramatic there, IMO.

Fair enough. I like the in-yer-face punch the Pepper remix has. Some find it too tweaked. I don't.
The YS Pepper remixes are too bland and thin for my taste. On the other hand I find other YS remixes such as Only A Northern Song and Hey Bulldog way superior than the original mixes.

The original mixes are out there. All remixes are revisionist creatings. And I think it's fine we have different tastes on all those remixes.

What I like about Giles Martin is that he is not shy of making things different.

Neither am I, but it doesn't mean I should be given the job of remixing the White Album............... ;)

Lucky you. I can't bear to listen to it, the out of syncness makes me feel physically sick. Just like the wrong piano chord on Long And Winding Road, but that's another topic.

Alert! be very careful not to repeat this as the "G" watchdogs are counting...unless they're "G" gushing then the counter is null and void.

    Still prefer the original.

I'm actually thinking the same for most of all the new releases. The 2009 CDs were a revelation, but nothing since... (to be fair, I haven't heard the 2014 mono LPs)
