Any mani users try a Pho-8 and prefer it?

I use my mani at 47db gain, most seem to use it at 42db. I'm wondering if the fixed high gain of the Pho-8 will be much of an upgrade?

Anyone else try both? or suggestions for alternatives < $250 or so?

 

I didn't/don't have a Mani, but I am currently using the Vincent PHO-8 and love it! I love the separate power unit and I am running it through a Yamaha Amp..Using the PHO-8 instead of the other phonostage was like throwing back a curtain and hearing the clarity, definition, and punch of the music! I got my unit this past fall from the now defunct Jerry Raskin's Needle Doctor. Brian (turntable guy there) was super to work with and gave me great advice on choosing this phono amp--and how to get it set up and use it properly. Audio Advisor (on-line sales company) recently ran ad for PHO-8 at super price! I have an AT VM530EN for cart---nice combo to my ears!
