Did this one a while back. EMI's answer to the Hey Jude album in my alternate reality. I probably need to revise it to include The Inner Light. The concept is different from the original A Collection of Beatles Oldies in that this includes only EMI non-album singles from 1967-1969.
It was the last song that I cut! I wanted to keep Paul and John on par as far as the number of songs, and also keep some brevity for the total running time for greater impact.
I created my own 4-disc "box set" in the style of the Rhino box sets that did deep dives into specific genres/periods (i.e. No Thanks! The 1990s weren't great for a lot of things in music, but the rise in excellent female artists, and their profile within the media and industry, was one of the definite plus points. Those tracklistings prove that! EG.
When I realized they recorded SO MANY songs for "The Sign"/"Happy Nation" you could make a 3-disc set out of them. Funny thing is, that's not even all of them - they apparently recorded a whole album's worth of songs for the US edition, several of which we've never heard.

I created a really nice Jawbox greatest hits in Spotify, based on the setlist from the reunion show they did in Seattle on July 9th. 77 minutes, so it would fit comfortably on one CD. I used Live or Peel Sessions from "My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents" as much as possible. This gives it a more unified feel - especially on the cuts from Novelty since Zach drummed on these instead of Adam. Also - I went with the Bob Weston remastered "For Your Own Special Sweetheart", instead of the kind of anemic original release. Album sources listed in parenthesis. Jawbox - An Impartial Overview Mirrorfull (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on Jawbox) 68 (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on Savory+3 EP) Desert Sea (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on Jawbox) Grip (Grippe) Nickel Nickel Millionaire (Jawbox) Motorist (For Your Own Special Sweetheart remaster) Tongues (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on Novelty) Livid (Jawbox) Iodine (Jawbox) Cooling Card (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on For Your Own Special Sweetheart) Spoiler (Jawbox) Static (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on Novelty) Ff=66 (For Your Own Special Sweetheart remaster) Chinese Fork Tie (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on Jawbox) Won't Come Off (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on Jawbox) Breathe (For Your Own Special Sweetheart remaster) Cutoff (Novelty) Reel (For Your Own Special Sweetheart remaster) Savory (My Scrapbook Of Fatal Accidents originally on For Your Own Special Sweetheart) Jackpot Plus! (For Your Own Special Sweetheart remaster) Chicago Piano (For Your Own Special Sweetheart remaster) Absenter - including hidden Cornflake Girl cover (Jawbox) For those who aren't familiar with Jawbox, this is a pretty good introduction. Cheers, Paul

Hmm - I thought I had posted this here - but I can't seem to find it. Anyway - one of the compilations that I made recently that I really enjoy is this "Alternate Universe" post-Beatles compilation. So - I was reading about the Beatles compilations Hey Jude, 1962 -1966 and 1967 - 1970 - and also the Hot Rocks compilation. I was envisioning a situation in 1971 where the post breakup Beatles albums flopped, they lost control of their masters, left Apple and/or had sales targets to make - so Allen Klein put together a compilation of solo Beatles work. The hallmarks of this compilation are: this must be centered around 1970 - 1971, and should also serve as a singles compilation with a few deep cuts. I gave this a joke title - here it is: The Apple Contractual Obligation Album Side 1: What Is Life - George Harrison Another Day - Paul McCartney Instant Karma! (We All Shine On) - Lennon/Ono with the Plastic Ono Band My Sweet Lord - George Harrison Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey - Paul & Linda McCartney It Don't Come Easy - Ringo Starr Power To The People - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band Side 2: Every Night - Paul McCartney Jealous Guy - John Lennon Junk - Paul McCartney Love - John Lennon All Things Must Pass - George Harrison Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney Imagine - John Lennon I left off Cold Turkey, because I felt that this compilation would be trying to avoid controversy. Likewise - I included things like Jealous Guy and Junk because they were fan favorites at the time and fit the overall concept. You might recognize the track list order of the artists from another famous Beatles album. I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader. Cheers, Paul

This is great! Add "Dark Horse" (the song) to Disc 1 and "Wake Up My Love" to Disc 2 and it's perfect.
It’s one of my favorite George songs. When I was performing in my acoustic guitar solo act, “Dark Horse” was a song that appeared in the set list frequently.
It’s a fantastic song, and I almost included it, but I just had to have “Soft-Hearted Hana,” which is a personal favorite of mine. I wish George’s voice was in better shape when he recorded “Dark Horse.”

One of my favorites I compiled many formats ago but still keep... 1.Miles Davis / Ssssh. Peaceful (1969)...Miles was really digging Hendrix & Sly at this point & it shows through brilliantly on this creation of Jazz Fusion record 2.Jimi Hendrix Exp. / all of side 3 "EL" & Still Raining Still Dreaming from side 4 of "EL" (1968)...Jimi was obviously digging Miles too & my only question at the time was "what came 1st the chicken or the egg?" sadly we will never know 3.Pink Floyd / Fearless (1971)...behind the Syd debut "Meddle" has always been my favorite PF record, before all the pomposity set in 4.Who / Quadrophenia (1973)...this instrumental remains a Who preference, IMO this was the closest the Who ever came to forging classical & rock together 5.Pere Ubu / Caligari's Cabinet (1978)...my favorite American band since 1975 6.PiL / Albatross (1979)...Johnny's reference to 1968 never fails to grab me, these boys were definitely listening to fusion Miles Davis 7.The Mekons / One Horse Town(1989)...I could have selected anything off of this anarchist EP masterpiece so I flipped a coin, the only other band from the orig. Punk era to remain this prolific & relevant is Pere Ubu 8.Beatles / IATW (1967)...this sounds great sandwiched between Mekons & Clash 9.Clash / The Magnificent Seven (1980)...a Rock compilation without Clash is sorely lacking This is now on a CD format but it began life on a TDK cassette tape in 1973 & transitioned as I added more to it through the years
Haven't done one for a while but my all time favourite segue, which I have reused a few times, is from Free's Little Bit Of Love into The Stones' Tumbling Dice. The Koss lick at the end of the former dovetails rather beautifully with the Stones intro.
Highlights - Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush - Some of his best non-cover songs. 1. Talkin' 'Bout A Feelin' 2. A New Rock And Roll 3. Strange Universe 4. I'm Going Away 5. The Answer 6. Dragonfly 7. The World Anthem 8. Sister Change 9. Down, Down, Down 10. Bottom Of The Barrel 11. Finish Line 12. Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame 13. Strange Dreams 14. Midnight Highway 15. Maybe It's Time 16. Poppy
