Good band, Lynch is a superior guitarist than many of the hair band guys he gets lumped in with. Really like their live "Beast In The East" album. Don Dokken had the greatest wig ever in rock n'roll...lol
I was watching the "Never Sleeps Again" documentary about the Nightmare on Elm Street series and they are featured in the section about "Dream Warriors". Such a great song and interestingly the lead singer said that even back then the song was way too high to sing so he's had to bring it down a few keys.
I was listening to "Beast From The East" and that was what inspired me to make the post. Just a killer album! I agree with you about Lynch, and Don does have a pretty killer wig these days! I like all the guitar players who have played in Lynch`s absence, especially John Levin (current). He nails Lynch's tone and style, but also can play in his own style.
Always loved Dokken. I still pull out Tooth and Nail and Under Lock and Key at least a couple of times each year.
I bought all their albums, saw them live, and considered myself a fan, but I can't say I've listened to them once in the last 25 years...
Have any of you listened to the Dokken albums that have been put out wihout George Lynch? If yes what do you think?
I still listen to their '80s output with George Lynch. I have no interest in the band's present activity with an inferior line-up and Don Dokken's fully-shot vocals.
Paging Synthfreek, paging Synthfreek ... Actually, I still dig the "classic line-up" stuff (Dokken, Lynch, Pilson, Brown). Both Breaking the Chains and Tooth and Nail are still favorites. I especially love BtC. Lynch is a super great guitarist and "Mr. Scary" one of the best shred workouts I can think of. I saw em' open for BOC in '83 and that was fun. They had a lot of energy and watching Brown's kit fall apart during a tune was fairly comical in itself. Favorite tune: "Paris is Burning"
I watched the Dream Warriors video last night by Dokken on the A Nightmare On Elm Street blu-ray set and I can't believe I liked and listened to that kind of stuff back in the day.
Maybe I am showing my age but I don't understand the Clutch "nod" I remember the "Rokken With Dokken" from the eighties. Help a geezer out and explain my friend
From "Breaking The Chains" through "Back For The Attack" they were great. I still listen to them from time to time. I've tried to like their later stuff, but Don sounds bad and the songs are weak. Their current guitarist really nails the Lynch style and the band sounds good, but it just doesn't work for me.
Yep, same here. I would say that out of all the bands I listened to in the 1980s only about 5% of those have remained with me over the years.
