She is one of my all time favorite actresses. I was fortunate enough to get a signed 8x10 by her decades back. Do you have a favorite film of hers? I think Belle de Jour is near the top for me, along with Repulsion. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg remains a colorful delight. Catherine is stunning against the rich color backdrops in that film.
She's not my favorite of European actresses by a long shot but I love this musical movie. I have seen Belle de Jour, and Maitresse (I know she 's not in that) but would have to watch it again to see if I would want to revisit it as often as I do Les Parapluies.
(Just a friendly reminder that cheesecake threads are not allowed, so keep it respectful, and lets not post saucy pictures that might encourage one to lear like a king.)
Indeed. Probably my second favorite Polanski film after "Knife In The Water". I adore Jolanta Umecka in that movie.
As well as Belle de Jour she’s in another Bunuel film from around the same time. The title eludes me - a girl’s name. I didn’t care for her in the one with Mastroianni where he thinks he is pregnant. what does everyone think of The Hunger with Bowie and Sarandon?
Tristana, based on a Galdos story. Great film too. Deneuve has made many great movies long after being what cheesecakes (I can only guess what that means) might be interested. She’s literally a living legend, mostly of course in France.
She was against appearing "revealed" and was furious when Bunuel included a see-through shot of her from behind in Belle de Jour.
I think she is a very good rather than great actress, but someone I really admire for clearly loving the craft and keeping on making cinema. I think I've posted this before, but she once passed me in a corridor and I genuinely went weak at the knees. I think she was about 70 at the time!
