Anyone ever try a sand bag on a crystal of an external DAC?

I have a modified MSB Link II DAC. I love the sound, but I just took my whole stereo apart, and thought I would try the sand bag tweak I read about on the Asylum. Has anyone ever done this? I am a bit afraid to do it, because the smallest bag I could find still covers other parts as well as the crystal. Should I be concerned with this? I am afraid of overheating.

    Chris,

Why don't you try making your own. I wouldn't cover the entire DAC.

Chris, as long as your bag isn't touching any of the large ICs you should be ok. If you are still concerned about overheating an IC, you can just damp the DAC with Blu-tac (or the 99ยข equivilent from Home Depot). That's what I did, and I felt the difference was huge.

Could someone put a link up so I can read about this? I'm curious.

    Thanks,

    Jamie,

Click here to go to the index page. Jon Risch is the moderator of the Tweaks section of Audio Asylum and is an engineering supervisor at Peavy for their concert speakers.

Be forewarned his stuff is very dry to read.
