It sounds like a basic misunderstanding of what the 8-track tape format is. If 4-track tapes are stereo, someone might assume that 8-track tapes are quadraphonic, not having 4 parallel stereo programs.

 

In all fairness the record industry started this type of thing with "Electoinically created stereo" and millions of suckers ate it up like it was candy.

 

Or maybe these really are Q8's (albeit self-created, as mentioned).
That recorder they used allegedly does Quad recording: Akai CR-80D-SS - Manual - 8-Track Stereo Cassette Recorder - HiFi Engine . If the seller did record from a quad source, and recorded to a quad 8-track recorder, then these may actually be what they claim to be.

I once came across someone selling a pair of used men's leather slippers that had a "pleasing, slightly sour aroma." I am still disturbed by that and I saw it probably more than 10 years ago.

 

I don't get it. Am I the only one who read this and realized immediately it *is* quadrophonic if you play 4 of them at the same time? Duh!

 

The ad does mention they are upmixes. They probably do serve some purpose if you have a quad 8-track setup and want to hear Deee-Lite in probably not very discrete quad. But it's $120 for someone to record 4 amateur remixes (possibly from someone else's torrent) to tape and make fake artwork with a dumb made up label name. It's a weird mix, not sure who would want those specific albums as a lot.
